#1: Buying a 206 Author: Jay0913, Posted: Fri Sep 07, 2012 1:56 pm ---- Hi guys im new to the forum, my name is jay, im basically a big fan of 206 s and im trying to find one, i did find a 1999 1.6 glx in grey with gti alloys it has a 107,000 miles for £650 is this a good buy? Any advice on the particular model? Thanks

This is my first 206 and I use mine as a third car giving it plenty of grief. One of the reasons I chose the 206 was because they look good and seem to sell very easy. Oh and I wanted something with a towbar.
The 206 does have its problems but it's no different to any other small car, mine is playing up at the minute but only for 30 seconds and then it's fine for the rest of the day.
At ths end of the market I would look at how much not it has, how much tax, condition of tyres and any work that's been done in the past year. You cannot expect a new car when it's 13 years old and only a couple of hundred quid. Check to see if the Cambelt has been done along with the water pump. See if it's had the head gasket done too as these seem an issue with 206's.
Would I buy another, no, but then I never do buy the same thing twice. However even if I didn't have that rule I still wouldn't. If you get a good one they are nice but they have too many niggaly faults for my likening

But witht&t until feb that's a good start. The 1.6 is a good engine as it is still a TU, just less common. Main things I would be looking at are the suspension components and whether its had a cambelt change. I would recommend buying one, but just check all the usual thimgs as you would with buying any used car that is quite old.
1.4 8v is the best engine petrol engine for a 206!!
Are you sure about that? Or are you forgetting about the gti180 everyone knows and wants

All the expert residents on here quote that engine to be bullet proof. Sounds like a good thing! My assumption is it lasts a VERY long time

The 2.0 HDI engine has proven time & again it will do 400K miles easily IF its looked after

Only ways to stop it is:
Stick it in 5th gear with handbrake & footbrake fully on & stall it.
CO2 fire extinguisher fired up the air intake.
OR run away & wait for it to blow up / stop.
