if its not coming up with faults then its intermittent, my best guess is a coil pack, i had the same issue with my 1.1, so i bought a new coil pack but never fitted it as i just decided to hit the coil pack with a spanner and it seem to fix it,
even trying coilpack earth mod would be good idea.

It would run fine, cut out slowing down on the approach to a junction, all the usual lights on the dash would come on as expected with a stalled engine. Turn the key and car would restart and be fine. Ended up being the battery on the way out.
Check it with a multimeter. If it's healthy it should read about 12.6v at rest and about 14v when the engine is running. Mine was reading <12v at rest so put a new battery on and not had a problem since.
