Had the same problem a few days ago and it turned out that on the 2001 model the air intake un modified is above the passenger side front wheel in the wheel arch and I hit a puddle and car ran like a bag of crap so so as im a mechanic I investigated and found the air filter was soaking and water was luckily enough not all the way in the engine, soo my advice is in a 206 avoid puddles lol and also check your intake is correctly clipped up and secure ... Eg cable tie the thing lol cuz ya could not be lucky next time and end up flooding your engine
