Oh on the last post, the boot and clips are available as separate parts on ServiceBox, so the idea that they are "sealed" is incorrect.

New driveshaft is now in place with new bolts to hold the central bearing in place and oil "seal" that sits next to the gearbox. I used the two offset head bolts to pull the bearing into place after cleaning and greasing the mounting.

I couldn't get a non-asb shaft in time, so it anyone needs an abs ring ... I just knocked it off Smile And I've got a spare oil ring for the shaft as they only sell them in pairs ... £2 inc postage (£2.33 plus vat each from dealer).

Oh and reconditioned arms tend to be painted ... shame they also paint the bearing to stop it locating in the gearbox mount and the spline to the gearbox!!! Scraped mine clear before refitting.

So tomorrow I'll get the arm back, torque up the hub nut, refill the gearbox and we should be back on the road.

I'm going to design a tool to pull the arm down as I think it could be fairly simple to make something that was better than the idea in the Haynes manual

I'm cream-crackered getting that balljoint back in the hub assembly. Guess it's a two man job but there isn't really enough room. Used an assortment of bits of wood including a long piece of 4"x"2 to hold the arm down to get the hub over the ball joint pin. Pushed it down and wedged other pieces between that and the bumper to get it down low enough. Then slowly raised the lower arm again while pushing the hub in towards car. Must have taken 5-6 attempts to get the pin to locate in the hub. Another stupid french design ... I hate the man that came up with the 206! Rolling Eyes

Tightened hub nut with breaker bar as tight as I thought I could ... which when I used the torque wrench turned out to be 210Nm ... the highest my wrench goes ... so tightened it another 90 degrees using bar ... it should be about right. Staked nut and tried it on drive and all sounds OK.

So just the gearbox refill to go ...
