Water in Passenger Footwell
-> 206 Problems

#1: Water in Passenger Footwell Author: MrrNoName, Location: UK PostPosted: Mon Sep 17, 2012 3:08 am

Hi All,

I have a small leak problem with my 206, can anyone help?

Firstly: 2001 (Y) Reg 206, 1.4 Petrol

Recently after heavy rain I get into the car in the morning and start my journey, within the first few seconds water begins to drip from the left hand side of the glove box into the passenger foot well. It is only a small amount of water (less than half a cup full) however it’s enough that it is causing a problem.

The water drips down the side of the glove box, onto the carpet sidewall and bonnet release catch. Directly behind the glove box is dry, it seems to be coming from the very corner and running down the side.

Ok, so what I know it’s not:

I know that the water is not coming from the passenger door seal, it’s also not coming from the large multi-plug that holds the wiring for the door (my first thought as that’s where the water seems to drip from, but I now think it’s coming from above). It’s also not the heater matrix (it’s definitely rain water).

Are there bulkhead drain plugs in the engine bay that can get clogged with leaves? (I have had a quick look but can’t see any?)
It’s also strange that when I first get in the car the foot well is dry, it’s only when I start driving that the water starts dripping down? Maybe it’s sitting somewhere behind the dash and then running out due to the movement?

Thanks in advance for any help guys!

I have had a leak there twice in the two years I have had the car, Tried tracing it both times and have looked everywhere, My conclusion is it doesn't happen that often so I just dry it up and carry on.

Is the windscreen seal all ok? might have a slight crack/hole and the water sitting in the drain but below the windscreen leaks through.

i had a similar problem in our old vauxhall astra... our solution was to drill a small hole in the floor so the water drained straight out =P . but it was the door seal and we sold the car before i could be bothered to properly fix it.

I did wonder about this, it seems like it could be coming in from the corner of the windscreen but I have no idea how I would check the seal? I also thought windscreens were generally sealed pretty well from the factory so dont usually leak.

@sybiriya - I dont fancy drilling a hole in the floor for half a cup full of water thanks Laughing

Does anyone know if there are drain plugs / holes around the top of the windscreen/bulkhead area that I can check?

I'd say windscreen pal. Ihad a Citroen ZX a number of years ago and had the same problem. I actually removed all the glove box and bulkhead sound proofing so that I could see the upper bulkhead area, I then bladdered the lower windscreen with the hose pipe and hey ho result. Best thing then though is to have the screen taken out and refitted. When mine was cut out you could see the channel/break in the sealent where it had been running.
