GTI misfire
-> 206 Problems

#1: GTI misfire Author: iancav6, Location: rugby PostPosted: Sat Sep 22, 2012 8:04 am
    ----
Was out with the mrs in her 04 GTI 138hp this morning and all of a sudden it developed a misfire, felt like it was running on 2 cyls as it was gutless.EML light and anti pollution warnings came up.
I had fitted new super4s last week and had only done 30 miles since so went straight to those.two plugs looked a bit discoloured compared to the others but not too bad.

Put the old plugs back in, still missing
Took coil pack off my GTI,still missing.
Pulled out MAP sensor,nothing obvious.
Pulled a few plugs off TB,injectors and idle valve, nothing obvious.
Took TB inlet off and sprayed some contact cleaner over the air temp sensor.
Started it up,misfire gone,EML light out and runs ok.

Any ideas or just Peugeot randomness?

well if it worked after you cleanned the temp sensor would that not be the problem?
did you check for any fault codes?

i had the same problem and it was my injector

I haven't got an OBD reader so no codes.
No4 injector already changed by previous owner.
Yes it could be the AIT but are they that temperamental and cause the car to misfire that badly?

Did 30 miles in it last night and all ok.

My question was more about do the AIT sensors fail and if so what does it do to the running?

Had the code read today,P0203 No 3 injector which kind of fits in with the problem.

Where is the best place to get one from, motor factors or main dealer?

The car has been ok so far this week

It has been ok all week, drove 20 miles fine for a pub lunch, came out after 45 mins and it misfired right away.Chugged all the way home, put a meter across all 4 injectors and found no 3 was dead.took the rail and injector off to get the part no, put it back together with the old injector for now and it ran fine.
