#1: Starter works but engine won't fire? Author: danhill87, Posted: Tue Sep 25, 2012 6:42 am ---- So i have had this issue at least 3 times before yesterday, engine turns on the starter but will not take over from it.
Started happening the day after a new coilpack was fitted, on some of the occasions of it not starting i caught some deepish puddles.
on some occasions the car if left for a while will start eventually.
The car sometimes all be it rarely in the 6 years i've owned it, the engine simply quit while driving doesn't stall, its as if i've turned the ignition off?
There is fuel getting to the engine, as fuel comes out of the fuel hose in the engine bay when removed.
There is no fuel cut off switch that i can find.
When the RAC recovered the car last night, he suspected the "Main Relay"
but could not find it, his other suspicion was a "Body Control Fault", bit of investigating i found 1 relay under the engine bay fusebox, is that the main relay?
The more i read online the more i think it could be the crank sensor?
Car is a 54 reg 1.1 Independence.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

i had a customer a few weeks back that had a similar problem.
he got out of the car and went in to a mates house and when he came back out the car refused to start so i took out the fly wheel sensor and gave it a clean and put it back in and the car fired first time.
yours might not be the same problem but deffo worth a shot

Author: danhill87, Posted: Wed Sep 26, 2012 10:49 am ---- Problem fixed, turned out to be a wiring bundle under the air filter box, that was encased in plastic tubing was filled with rain water and had corroded one of the wire until it had broken, £120 lighter it works as good as ever.
