Okay may not strictly be a 206 but Razz

so it begins on the 21st july 2012 my 21st birthday i had been debating a new car for some time, i was debating a scooby, focus ST, EVO 7,8,9 and the 207 gti.

After almost a year of working 14 hour days saving as much as I can

Had to go for the subaru as its been my childhood dream to own one!

so as it goes this is the day i picked her up

when i initially got the car i told myself i would spend any money on parts but didnt last long, a week of ownership i took a trip down to my local specialist
and brought a couple of parts

1st thing to be fitted was the side STI sticker

next up was some mats

And then was a very manly pink badge Razz

Then i gave the front splitter i spray of gloss black makes a world of difference

As we are now heading into winter i decided to give it a fresh covering of Dodo juice wax

Managed to hit abit of a problem late at night sorting out the engine bay
in trying to replace all the rustly nuts and bolts 1 happend to snap typically being a very important one that holds the rad put Sad

so out comes the tooling 10pm at night sorry neighbours Razz

After that was finished i spent the weekend cleaning the entire bay painting all the rusty parts, removing the road grime from the intercooler and polishing up the shiny bits Smile

last but not least i decided to move the horns from there original location from behind the bumper to in front of the grill

Sorry but I f*****g hate these cars ! They just cost too much to keep running and everyone that drive one drives like a complete c**k head , and has a exhaust the size of a dustbin

I totally agree with you. However they are still great drivers cars IMO. An Evo is one of my childhood dream cars but they are such money pits. I know my mate has had two and works at a specialist garage. However maybe I am being a bit of a hypocrite; I bought an old school Hilux that I have always wanted, I just spent over £1000 to rebuild the engine. Besides the modifications.

What a stupid comment!!! Too much to keep running u can't hate a car because off that if u caint afford one don't buy one.

Everyone who drives one drives like a complete c**k. How long did it take u to travel the world and meet every single person who owns one?

And if u look at his other posts regarding stone chips I will think u find he take a lot off pride in looking after it and doesn't drive like a c**k.

Nice car mate keep up the good work Smile

I agree , ive owned a few classic turbo and they are great car! tho a little thirsty but it you got the money who cares.

The exhaust are all part of it and would it not be right without a big pipe, some people get a little gel as they only have a 206

keep up the good work

I'm not saying there are cheap to run but on an average week I'm spending about an extra £35 on fuel over my 180 I used tesco 99 in that as well, and in my opinion that's not bad,

I drive mine like a old lady I care to much about my driving licence to get to my location 2 mins quicker and don't want to crash my pride and joy just to just prove the car can do 80 in a 60 or 50 in a 30 which some people do! Sickens me to see!

There are a few scooby owners that think the McRae!

As the exhaust it's the cars sale point for most it's the sound of the engine that makes the drivers enjoy them so much!

I now changed all the bolts I wanted to, If I ever get bored enough I will paint my front subframe as its all flaking I know you can't see it but its bugging me, but I know bolts will snap and cause no end of pain

looks great mate! i had an impreza wrx, i didnt really get on with it though. for some reason i couldnt really get into it and found it boring to drive (im probably just weird!) so i got rid and got another 206. it didnt look as clean as yours though Smile

Thank you :), i can understand maby what you mean about the boring part, you dont get any excitment like i used to in my 180 maby its due to the sheer grip in the scoob, lucky for me someone down the road to me owns a farm and he allows me to drive down the tarmac lanes 3 miles of windy private road, and some corners in my 180 i would take at 45 and be terrified but i can take most corners at 70+ and have no fear Sad

the older classic scoobs give the fun of a 180 but most are knackerd nowdays or chaved to death as said when you got it the 4x4 does take some getting used too but when you do boy is it fun Laughing the newer ones like yours are nice but for me maybe just a bit to refined.

They are bridgestone RE070 been told they are hard to get hold of now Sad they mainly have to be shipped in from japan but are standard fitment on the nissan GTR and the impreza sti 2004-2007 i think only come in 2 sizes,

225/45/17 and the gtr size, its a shame as ive never used a road tyre with as much grip

ive not had the chance to drive a classic yet Sad i agree newer 1s are very safe but mine has the diff controller so i can set the drive, between the front and rear axle which makes for a fun drive Razz i think if i drove that windy road in rwd mode id enjoy it alot more i just trust myself as yet, i know if i spin its only tarmac but would rather not on these tyres until i get a spre set of wheels!

I remember looking at an Impreza STi at Stanstead airport a fair few years ago - one of those competitions to win the car. I recall it having some nic elooking tyres. Shame they don't do them in 16".

try not to spin the wheels or go for traffic light gp starts or you will be needing a new clutch or g/box mate. art of a scoob is getting just rolling in 1st then straight into 2nd and floor the bugger dam they pick up and go well then lol lol but the clutchs are a bit weak as standerd so just get it rolling before giveing it some.

there are a few around with a pod 100x5 but very few 114 ive got Sad i paid a full £440 but they will need tyres as the damn camber eats the inners on them all Sad stupid prodrive set up!

hmm i would get it checked mate as mine had the prodrive set up (inc the suspension itself) and had no probably with it scubbing them.
bet you got no understeer tho lol

thats the same as what i have, prodrive performance pack, and prodrive susspenion with geometry according to subaru when it had its service, think they said the sti are set up at 1.2 to 2 of camber at factory which seems a hell of alot to me! ill get a pic for you

#31: Re: Dan- Subaru Impreza STI Project thread (Pic Heavy) Author: broadblaster, Location: south coast PostPosted: Sat Oct 06, 2012 3:38 pm

understeer is normal on scoobs but the prodrive settings will sort that out. but they still should not scrub out. on mine i did used to swap front to back and side to side every 4k just to keep them even tho.
nice that you got the prodrive kit aswell then as its bloody expencive mate just the engine package is 1950 quid !!!! .

all that i know about these tyres is that were fitted along with the alloys back in may 2011 the car had done 5k miles on them and the subaru dealer told me that that amount of scrub is normal on these as prodrive set it up, but for day to day driving id back of the camber when u fit new tyres to stop it doing it again!

whoo thats quite bad mate think your going to have to start swaping them around every couple of mths at that rate to get the best out of them.or as you said have the set up reduced a bit.

17" or !8" as prodrive for some reson recomend 18" if there kit is fitted.

yeah i think i will have to :P, also another thing i noticed is the weight! 1 enkei sti alloy with tyres weight 6kg more than a 18" pff7 with 235 tyre madness! i think 1 only weight 9kg with tyre massive difference

the enkei evo wheels are rated to be light upgrade in the type r world and there the same as the sti wheels!

Sport mate, but now with adjustable rear arms and WRX rear roll bar. Also i have the alloy front arms with a free caster mod too Wink

Roughly set the rear to 1.5 to 1.75 camber with 0.16 of total toe in.
The front is standard and nothings adjustable, yet Wink

so while getting them refurbed i plan on replacing the centre caps, but not realising how rare they are is becoming difficult Sad

quick search on ebay seems there making big money! £115 for 4 caps, and only 2 are in good condition :'(
wouldn't mind spending that if i knew they were all new!

So what do you all think of my plan!

ive tried repairing the original caps but its beyond my skills!

tried everywhere for the originals, every subaru dealer in the uk!, the problem i have with the stickers is they lack the shine and may look tacky, but yet to see any on a car to clear that up!

well you could get some stickers made up so they look the same as oem then get them fitted on and lacquered over to give the shine and protection

that makes sense!

are these the wheels that come on the sti? the only wheels i would change to if i had a subaru or evo (8) is rota grid drift wheels. love them wheels!!! nearlly bought them for my mk4 golf, would have been worth more than my car Rolling On The Floor Laughing

WRX/STI ect

I have to say I like the new wheels but I prefer the stock ones if I'm honest, but that's only my opinion I'd still take either :P.

center caps look good mate, as for the wheel valves just make sure you put loads of vaserlen (sp) or greese on the cap thread or they have a habbit of corrodeing on and not comeing undone.

the wheel valves seem to be very good quality i had them on my 180 and had no problems with them, i always like to copper grease and nip them up with a spanner to stop the little p**cks nicking them if i pop to town!

i have the same issue with these ha, the rev limit on there's are at 7 whereas the old ones were 7,400 but my car dont hit the fuel cut till 8,200 so im well in the red, and for the speedo that doesnt go round enough either took it onto an airfield and got 175 mph on my gps before i ran out off tarmac

they are a car that you should own once in your life. after 5 of them i just feel that i have done my time on them.
they are not just a jump in and go fast car, i feel they do need time to drive them just to get used to how they drive it took me quite a few mths of ownership to learn how to get the most out of it.
but when you do they are very good its just a case of learning a diffrent driveing style.

could not agree more with you, its taken me since july to no where and when to power, how they hold the road, the gearing and the power deliver! if i got in it and drove like Mc Rea i would have written it off on day 1

My little baby has been spoilt quite alot this last month Smile
the 1st thing i done was get the nurspec R fitted, looks a million times better also sounds the dogs b***** aswell Very Happy

this is with the blitz fitted

The next thing i got cracking on with was the suspension, its a great handling car before but it suffered from understeer so i got that sorted with a set of solid droplinks and a uprated 25mm rear anti roll bar, i wasted no time in getting the parts fitted Very Happy

while fitting the anti roll bar i decided to give the underside of the car a clean so polished up the rear control arms and polished the exhaust again Smile

once i got them fitted the effects were instantly noticeable the rear end has completely stiffened up even kicks a wheel up now Very Happy

while ordering myself the rear anti roll bar and drop links the guy was also offering a Anti lift kit very cheap aswell so would be rude not to buy it cant really tell a difference to this part yet but on track it will become apparent its there and doing its job

The Anti lift kit it abit difficult to see its the part that fits to the back of the lower control arm and also comprises of the spacing blocks between the subframe and chassis

Then i did a free mod which was remove the rear mud flaps but now i feel it looks bare so im going to refit them!!

while driving home from my friends one night i noticed the rear shock was knocking Sad very common fault with the inverted struts, so there was no way i having that, weighed up my options and figured its best to replace the whole lot with some good coilovers as if i replace the struts the noise is only going to return at some point as with the design of them there no way around it!

took a trip up to a Subaru specialist and they fitted and dialled in a fast road alignment at the same time for me

Before

After

As you can see from the pictures its not massively lowered its just right if you ask me, looks spot on

Another thing i have done a few weeks ago was detango the headlights, basically take out the orange indicator lens, looks awful no idea why they put them in the uk spec lights :@

Before on the right and detangod on the left

and before again

Enjoy and let me know what you think Very Happy

as said before i had the same kit fitted to my last one and and it does make a big diffrence in the way they handle, and as you say a detango is allways worth doing.
your makeing a very nice car here not ott like alot do with scoobs just need to save up for a fully forged motor now (or a ej22t lump) and get her to around 5-550 and she will be fun lol lol

I've decided to go black on my winter wheels only Smile sticking with gold on my good wheels!

Not really done a lot in the last few months, been to busy with the clio ill post some pics up later Smile
Although what I have done is the important things, encountered quite a major problem one night though could have ended very badly, Subaru serviced my car back in august asked them to change the brake fluid as I had cooked the system on the track, reported back halfway through the day saying they couldn't release 1 of the bleed nipples on the inside of my drivers brembo so they only bled half the calliper, okay not problem really,

Driving around 1 night must have been about 11 pm down a country road, quite windy but easy to see traffic I was doing about 60-70 mph went to use the brakes, my pedal went right to the floor no pressure on it, I was like ohh **** had the missus in the car didn't say anything as didn't want to worry her, managed to hold it round the bend still doing about 50 on a bend normally taken at 35 on a downhill aswell once clear of the bend I started to engine brake slowing the car to 20 mph the used the handbrake gently to slow it to a stop got out checked the brake fluid reservoir and it was pretty much empty as I suspected, continued hunting around for the leak I checked inside the wheels and the drivers wheel inside was soaked quick dab on the finger and sniff it was obvious it's brake fluid! **** was my initial though, I'm 10 miles from home, I had a few choices either remove the brake line ok that side block or up and refill the reservoir with fluid and change the brake bias the full rear on my box, but though its not worth the risk of other peoples safety, phones my old man and got him to tow me home with a solid bar, soo as I made it home, I annoyed the neighbours got the air tools out on the drive started stripping the car down to find the fault, initially I though a piston seal may have blown, but pads were dry everything infront of the calliper was dry so that illuminated a few possibilities, went to turn the steering with my hands holding the calliper and disc, my hand got soaked so looked behind the calliper and couldn't really see anything obvious I though what the hells going on! Put some fluid in stated the car And got my dad to press the pedal down, fluid came shooting out the bleed nipple!!!

Though hmm strange how to they just loosen like that, remember Subaru saying they couldn't budge it, so what we have came up with is they may have cracked either the thread of the nipple or the thread in the calliper and over the months had managed to loosen more and more till it was enough for the fluid to come out,

Got my 11mm spanner on it tried to tighten it with no joy so I though f it I'm this far now got my small sledge hammer and hit the spanner and it moved about quarter of a turn, got the car running again and got my dad to stamp on the pedal no fluid this time, result!! It was now 4am have work at 6am :'( time to get some fluid back in bleed the entire system and go for a test drive! All good after that, been 2 weeks now and hasn't lost a drop I'm checking every time I stop the car,

I'm going to send the callipers off to brembo specialist when I can loosen the mounting bolts (nothing's budging them) to get new nipples and re Helicoil in them!

So was quite a terrifying experience for me, glad it didn't happen on my work commute on a main busy road!

This is what happened the paint on the calliper Sad all the lacquer had came off and started bubbling underneath the base paint!

Though the next day after work I want to strip the fronts down checking everything Subaru had touched to double check

Now obviously the brake pads could have been contaminated with brake fluid so though best to change the whole lot to be safe! Annoying can't get the discs of without removing the calliper which I still can't budge, I only did the pads, but spent about 1 hour cleaning the discs with brake cleaner!

These are my new pads, carbone lorraine RC6 race pads incredible stopping power!

And finally running sweet again a few pics after the trax wash Smile

looks a nice motor mate that must feel quite strange after haveing the 4x4 set up on the scoob.
i used to hate the bm's but daughter has just got a new 118d m sport and i must say i'm impressed with the way that drives, so your one must go very well !!

yeah its very odd feeling having no grip mid was through a corner, really do need to be careful with the right pedal in this or it will turn around and bite you!

it is without a doubt quicker than my subaru which was running 375hp, 0-60 in around 5.5 so not as quick as the subarus 4.2 but in everyday driving its quicker

untill its wet or icey lol, i must be honest i said i would never have another scoob but i keep finding myself looking at the hatch version but it would have to be a fully forged one.

I'm already back on the hunt for a Hawk STi i really miss the sound Sad don't get me wrong i love bmw, its fast as f, handles great on road and track, great on fuel in the month I've had it I've spent £100 on diesel, i was putting £60-£70 every 2 days in the subaru Razz was never saving any money!

Hmm just make sure you got enough spare cash for a engine rebuild then as the 2.5 engine is just a compleate pile of junk !!!!. your going to find a better scoob than the one you had the widetrack is genrally regaurded as the best one they made, unless you count some of the limited edition ones they made.

Any luck on the hunt dan? as I got a 320i m-sport last September for a 2nd car as wanted to take the pug off the road to use it as a 'toy'. but I'm Using my pug more and more as,well I'm board of the bimmer. So looking into swapping it for a sub I'm looking at the blobs as 'what I've researched' they are more reliable than the newer ( (hawk eye) shapes. any tips info would be much appreciated mate.

Gave up again, spent more money on 335d now running 385HP and 740nm a lot of fun especially with a LSD

Depending what model your after WRX or STi the earlier Sti my old style Blobeye are the more reliable due to the ringland failure on the 2.5sti but if your looking for a WRX either model will be fine don't suffer with the issue

Yer I've heard bits on this fault you say it's more on the sti 2.5 and not the wrx 2.5? How come it affects one and not the other?
2bh I like the look of the hawk eye but everything is more expensive than the blob I.e tax/Inshurance/running as it's a bigger lump maybe?

#161: Re: Dan- Subaru Impreza STI Project thread (Pic Heavy) Author: broadblaster, Location: south coast PostPosted: Mon May 11, 2015 2:15 pm

with dan on this stick with a late 05/55 blobeye and you will have a good car forget the 2.5 its just a sack of well you know what.

yer I've pretty much ruled out the 2.5 also they are £500 tax lol.
looking at a wrx with the ppp or a standard sti. I'll have around 7.5-8k by July (not looking to spend it all). so just seeing what's out there atm going for a test drive this weekend on a mint wrx in Nottingham.
only problem I have atm is I've got to sell my bimmer or part x. but they aren't playing ball on the price on my car so could be driving back in the bimmer.

don't get a wrx mate, you will only be p**sed off when you see a sti, trust me if you can afford the slightly extra get a STI! then it gives you the option to up it to 330ish if you get a wrx your pretty much fcuked on 250 without needing a forged engine'/

I'm in 2 minds tbh mate as it will be a daily driver. what's the up keep of a sti over a wrx? not fussed on insurance/tax as that's covered. its just the fuelling/servicing ect

#165: Re: Dan- Subaru Impreza STI Project thread (Pic Heavy) Author: Dan-, Location: Biggleswade PostPosted: Wed May 20, 2015 5:01 pm

You will want to map it trust me!

Mine used to achieve before obviously chasing big numbers I managed 160 miles on half a tank driving at 65

My dad had a wrx 2.5 and that only got 19mpg

I averaged 23-25 weekly, not that I was monitoring it as I didn't buy it to poodle Smile

Servicing cost not more than a wrx, as long as your chance you oil regularly, and get the plugs done they're easy they last 100,000 miles

I got my service done by Subaru as I needed a stamp and a FULL service all fluids and filters was only £340 which I think was great did it myself 3000 miles after it cost me £100 for oil and filter

Can service them 10k like the book says but sod that

Yer I want to get one because I want one, not bothered about costs to much just wanted to know the difference between the maintaince of a wrx and sti. My pug does about 14mpg and been running that for 5 years so I'm used to getting under 200 miles per tank haha but when the sub comes the 206 will be off the road and the cage will go in Twisted Evil
