Gti 140 noises from rear axel

Hi,
Got the above but am experiencing some noises from the rear. I have hosed everything down with WD40, all the bushes seems to be intact and there is nothing loose I can jiggle around under there. The suspension feels fine and cornering is all good.
Any ideas what this could be? Hard I know but it sounds like squeaking/grinding. Does not happen all the time. Also could this be related with a crap action of the handbrake? I've adjusted it but still it is a bit poor. Any help is most useful!
Thanks.

Is the anti roll bar end plate tight? They make a noise like you've described when they get a little bit loose. Just make sure you don't snap the bolt.

What kind of noise is it that is coming from the back . I had the same problem with a noise from the rear of the car and it turned out to be the rear axle bearing that had gone ?
