From the 138 to the 180 the trailing arm and torsion bar setup has been modified with the addition of a pair of tie rods in an effort to improve the axle's stability.

#4: Re: 180 rear axle??? Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Wed Oct 03, 2012 2:36 pm ---- Which ship wreck did that rotter come from?
That axle doesnt even appear to have the mounting bosses that were part of the later trailing arms. I reckon that's an exle from 2002 ish. Appears to have the later handbrake levers on the calipers.

#12: Re: 180 rear axle??? Author: PezHdi, Location: ShrewsburyPosted: Wed Oct 03, 2012 6:47 pm ---- Just wondering. Is it possible to put larger disc's and calipers on this axel and if so what off?
I no the front does more breaking than the back but i think the discs with the 180 (Challeger /vortex wheels) Look a little small.
The reason i ask is because i want to put 302mm discs on the front :]
Cheers Pez
#13: Re: 180 rear axle??? Author: Seabook, Posted: Wed Oct 03, 2012 6:53 pm ---- there wasn't any easy solution

Just use 207GTI or C4 VTS front brake setup with Calipers and disc. They are 302mm and required 16" wheels minimum.
#15: Re: 180 rear axle??? Author: Steve180, Location: CoventryPosted: Thu Oct 04, 2012 5:59 am ---- If you want bigger rear discs you could get the 406 v6 rear 290MM discs and calipers in under the 180 wheels? Calipers 2nd hand be about £50.00 the pair, new discs shouldn't be much more than £80.00 for a REALLY decent set and pads about £30/40. As the calipers are also setup for handbrake it means no faffing with a secondary caliper or hydrualic handbrake setup
#16: Re: 180 rear axle??? Author: Seabook, Posted: Thu Oct 04, 2012 6:36 am ---- i am very much doubt you can use the 406 rear disc.
Even the caliper might fit i doubt you can use their disc
#17: Re: 180 rear axle??? Author: Lecktorious, Location: ScotlandPosted: Thu Oct 04, 2012 7:05 am ---- Can be done, there is a guy on PSC UK running a vented set-up on a 309 beam, fitted to his 205.
#18: Re: 180 rear axle??? Author: PezHdi, Location: ShrewsburyPosted: Thu Oct 04, 2012 10:02 am ---- I'll look in to it ;] Like i said i no most of the breaking is on the front but if i have bigger front discs then i want bigger back ones else it will look stupid

how? surely it need fair a bit of mod?
406 rear caliper different caliper PCD ; disc offset is way off, and even handbrake design are completely different (integrated drum for handbrake)

that won't work at all there is no easy option for the brakes. your best option is seat coupe brembo caliper as you can get 300mm disks easily to fit with a custom bracket made up the 406has the wrong off set
