#1: Coolant overheated after car wash Author: karimali831, Location: EnglandPosted: Sat Oct 06, 2012 6:45 am ---- So I have only just had a car wash, waiting outside I noticed steam from the engine thinking it was from the pressure hose, noticeably got worse looked inside and the coolant temp was on red limit! Now I am waiting for the AA im worried the engine won't start...?? it probably was on the red for a good few minutes until steam starting forming. Could anything be damaged? There is a puddle ontop the engine

Hmm it still is overheating, aircon is not giving cool air and the fan won't turn.
Checking the fan relays.

#6: Re: Coolant overheated after car wash Author: karimali831, Location: EnglandPosted: Sat Oct 06, 2012 8:15 am ---- There is a lot of corrosion on the fan relays and wiring, maybe enough water got in there to stop the unit working. There are two relays, anyone know if one is aircon?
#7: Re: Coolant overheated after car wash Author: karimali831, Location: EnglandPosted: Sat Oct 06, 2012 8:41 am ---- After checking the relays:
Looks like I must also get a new fan wiring harness as the sockets and wiring look corroded. Anyone know the part names please?
#8: Re: Coolant overheated after car wash Author: Seabook, Posted: Sat Oct 06, 2012 8:48 am ---- the relay is 6547 TX

I've got some stashed away somewhere in my stock of Peugeot parts, if I ever get bored one day ill take one apart
The pin out on the terminals will show if its just a normal 5 pin relay.

Yes they are, and no protection diodes on the coil either. (plain SPDT 12V)
Trouble if you clean them is because the top nickel-plating is gone, the copper will just oxidize green again in
no-time. I always bin those triumphantly and use silicon grease spray for future protection on the contacts.
#14: Re: Coolant overheated after car wash Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sat Oct 06, 2012 10:56 am ---- The wiring terminals will be corroded too and might have even corroded right through enough to break the wires.
Ideally it needs the bumper taking off and a thorough clean up /repair making.
#15: Re: Coolant overheated after car wash Author: karimali831, Location: EnglandPosted: Sat Oct 06, 2012 12:00 pm ---- When you turn air con on you hear "click" noise, if this is from the relay then relays are OKAY?
