#1: Usual knocking, help needed Author: bart84, Location: lancashirePosted: Thu Oct 11, 2012 3:49 am ---- I have had a knocking noise for longer than I care to remember, occurs when accelerating/decelerating mostly.
I have checked the usual areas, have replaced o/s lower arm recently and checked for play in both n/s and o/s suspension and steering components with no fault found.
When noise occurs it sounds like drivers side.
I'm tempted to change the bottom engine mount but I've seen a few posts referring to drive shaft.
How can I check if driveshaft is at fault??
(Sorry for the essay)

Windows open helps you hear it better, as its often more noticeable outside the car. You should hear the bearings knocking, but they will go on for ages before they get really noisy.
Hubby's MK1 Golf GTI used to go eat driveshafts for breakfast - ahh those frosty winter evenings changing yet another CV joint - I remember it well !
