Engine management light
-> 206 Problems

#1: Engine management light Author: bakke1, Location: M Ash PostPosted: Fri Oct 12, 2012 8:52 am

Hi all

A couple of weeks ago the engine management light came on, on my Y reg 206GTI, but after a few days the light went off so I thought nothing of it.

Now the light has come back on, but this time the car has cut out on me twice whilst slower down, the car has started stright back up and also the car has started juddering (is the best I can describe it) at about 50 - 70mph.

Also when the light was on, when the car was idle (engine running) it was reving it self to over 1 and a half revs

The light has gone off today and the car seems fine - Any ideas?

Yeah I know - my brother in law is going to do it next week

He thought it may be a coil (not sure what that is lol)

Just wanted to see if anyone else had any ideas or had similar experiences

It might be a coil pack, but on the 206 they come in a unit of all four. It's important to make sure you get the right model too.

What diagnostic is he going to use? I couldn't get our Y-reg CC to pick up on my Sealey device so invested in PP2000 and the cables!

We had the coil pack go on our 2.0 and it was like running on two cylinders ... not good when travelling around the M25 at 70 ... it would come back to like most times, but it wasn't safe to use like that.

I swapped that out with a 2nd hand one over a year ago and it's all OK (touching wood). Also fitted Super 4 plugs and this has made it run much, much better than the original Pug-branded plugs.

Ive had two coil packs on customers cars go, and yes you get the judering etc but no engine light which is strange I agree.

I don't have a spare gti pack im afraid so cant try it to see if it is. I recon it probabl is.

Sorry about the delay in gettin back - my brothr in law was busy

Was put on the diagnostic machine (sorry not sure which one)

He says he fault mean was I need the throttle potentiometer needs replacing along with the manifold regulator? Not not what these are but he has qouted £231.25 for the parts from peugeot.

I have looked on websites for spares but cant find them anywhere are they called something else or do you have to buy brand new?
