Soot under the bonet
-> 206 Problems

Anybody else had this with a 1.4 Hdi. Over the top of the engine, turbo area its got a layer of soot. I've wiped it off once but it reappears. There are no leaks on the exhaust or pipes on the turbo and it is running great. It does seem quite quick also for a 1.4 hdi so was wondering would it be possible that something has been messed about with in the past !

It's taken a while to find out where the soot is coming from but I can safely say its coming from the joint where the cat fits to the turbo. The clamp had come lose and exhaust gases were escaping when revved, although there is no sound of it blowing. Trouble is now that its tightened back up its still letting gases escape upon revving. Anyone know if there is a gasket or sealing ring on this joint like old 205's and 309's had. It's got the three piece exhaust.
