#1: Girlfriends new car. unsure. Author: roscoe, Location: North east UKPosted: Sun Oct 28, 2012 1:33 pm ---- My girlfriends just passed her test so I'm buying her a car as a surprise but can't decide.
She wants a black convertible. My limit is upto £4000 and thats pushing it.
So its out of :
206cc 54 reg, 47,276 miles, 1.6L - £1795
I will be changing a few parts if I decide on this one
or
Mini Cooper, 54 reg, 89,000 miles, 1.6L - £3990
(was originally up for £5790)
Obviously there's a massive price increase on the mini and higher milage so I'm edging towards the 206 but if I get that. She'll want the mini
I'm bamboozled!!!

The whole Mini is a rubbish drive & long term ownership prospect
Id rather have a 206 then a Mini & thats saying something as the 206 isnt exactly a great small car

8 year old
Crap engine choice
Just look at the bastardation of it
& its a 206 CC, not exactly a great selling point in the first place.

There's quite a few cc's going around this price. I was surprised myself.
This ones private hence why the mini is 2 grand more.

the ride feel like my bilstein B8+eibach prokit with 22mm torsion bars.
so it is more towards sporty end. But again the car is pretty slow
#13: Re: Girlfriends new car. unsure. Author: roscoe, Location: North east UKPosted: Sun Oct 28, 2012 1:50 pm ---- Also she ain't going on my insurance, screw that. So its got to be under a 2.0L.
#14: Re: Girlfriends new car. unsure. Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Sun Oct 28, 2012 1:57 pm ---- f*****g hell, buying her a car?! f*** that
All i can comment on is the mini's engine is utter s**te for reliability, along with the gearbox and a few other items. The peugeot, well is a peugeot but is cheap to fix.
And remember, soft top over a hard top, what is more likely to leak?

cheap insurance, pretty much immune to car thief, reliable, good ride as always
it is hard to beat that as the 1st car
#16: Re: Girlfriends new car. unsure. Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Sun Oct 28, 2012 2:05 pm ---- Dont forget the p**s poor Renault electrics
Nissan & Renault, what a tie up
#17: Re: Girlfriends new car. unsure. Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Sun Oct 28, 2012 2:05 pm ---- The CC versions of the 206 and 207 hold their value quite well. I'm surprised a 54plate 206 CC is down to that price. But then the plastic add ons have ruined it.
#18: Re: Girlfriends new car. unsure. Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Sun Oct 28, 2012 2:08 pm ---- Buy her a good reliable car for her first car. If she wants a convertible, tell her to wait until she has more experience and has built up her no claims.
Chances are that what ever you buy is going to be bumped about a bit over the next few months (ice and snow don't mix well with new drivers), so you might aswell go for a cheap and cheerful run around that is easy to repair.
Spend £1000 now and save the rest to buy her a new car when this one is written off, plus the saving will pay for the insurance.
#19: Re: Girlfriends new car. unsure. Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Sun Oct 28, 2012 2:11 pm ---- A TU1 / TU3 powered 206 hatchback with ABS would be a good choice

A roof is always a good thing to have over you before going upside down in a ditch after losing it on ice. Trumpton can always make it into a convertible afterwards though Last edited by macca1411 on Sun Oct 28, 2012 2:16 pm; edited 1 time in total
