#1: another Idle problem (different - revving madness!) Author: snailer, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Nov 13, 2012 6:22 am ---- I've got a 1.1 and it's been stalling on idle for some time.
Garage can't read any faults and EM light is not on,
but sometimes on slowing down when I press the clutch
the revs drop to c300rpm and sometimes it picks up
sometimes it dies. worse when cold. (I did recently change the
temp sensor on the engine which didn't affect it much, if at all)
Now it's started intermittently oscillating between 1500 and 2000 rpm
for a bit then it settles down again and won't do it for a few days
then it can do it several times in a day.
It's probably the ICV (I cleaned the TB and the ICV thoroughly
and I checked the ICV was working by disconnecting it and feeling it
move when I covered over the air intake)
But before I buy a new one I thought I'd check with you guys if it could
be something else. MAP? Cam sensor? ECU?
Is there a way to verify it aside from trying a new one and seeing if it fixes it?!?
Has anyone tried the cheap ICV's avail on ebay (£13) or shld
I just shell out for a proper one... ( I think I know what yr gonna say!!)
Is there anyone in NW london who might have better diagnostic machine?
Thanks
Tony

Hope this helps
#3: Re: another Idle problem (different - revving madness!) Author: snailer, Location: United KingdomPosted: Tue Nov 13, 2012 11:22 am ---- I can't see the Cam sensor.
Is it no.5 in the diag? or is that the MAP.
Mine doesn't have any sensor there. (see photo below)
Can anyone tell me where the cam sensor is?!?
I've loaded some pics of my engine...
Could it be that the 1.1 only runs on a crank sensor?

The day before I was going to get new parts I
decided I had nothing to lose so I cleaned the MAP
with switch cleaner as a solvent to the oily fuel inside the sensor
and then I washed it with hot soapy water in my ultrasonic cleaner for
about 15 minutes, allowed it to dry thoroughly.
I also removed the ICV and sprayed some carb cleaner inside.
and it's all running sweetly again.
I figured that because it was oscillating 1500-2000 the ICV was probably
working (as well as testing it by removing it, plugging it in and putting my
finger over the hole while the engine was running and I could feel it the valve
winding in and out) but may have a bit of grit or carbon in it, and I focused on
the MAP which I could see had some oily deposits inside.
