#1: Backbox bracket just snapped! Please help Author: Tolkienfan001, Location: SpaldingPosted: Tue Nov 13, 2012 9:39 am ---- Hi,
The bracket near the tail pipe has just snapped. The exhaust is still attached but swinging slightly.
I have been quoted £50.00 for a new bog standard back box. I don't really want to do this as in a few months I was planning on getting a long life or power flow system (just can't quite afford it yet).
So my question is what cowboy fix can I put in place to keep me going for a couple of months until I change the whole system?
I don't do many miles a week maybe 40 or 50 at the most.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

No, you can't weld rust. If its nearly all rust, then it needs replacing. If its got a bit of life left but the bit that broke is rusty, then often a welded repair can be made to stretch the life of the component out a little.
It looks like circumstances have overtaken your financial planning. If you need to continue using the car, you'll need to replace (or get welded if possible, but might not be...) the back box, either with a standard one or bring forwards buying the expensive aftermarket one.

Please help Author: RMS-GTI, Location: Hemel HempsteadPosted: Fri Nov 16, 2012 9:52 am ---- On the net somewhere there is a place that did sell brackets that strap round the backbox with a hanger on. Maybe worth trying to find one of those if you can't afford your new one just yet.
However it won't solve your problem if the backbox has a hole in it
