Refilling Coolant/Antifreeze (Follow-up-question)

#1: Refilling Coolant/Antifreeze (Follow-up-question) Author: Tseten PostPosted: Sat Nov 17, 2012 2:36 pm

Hello,

This is a follow up question to my previous thread: www.206info.co.uk/Foru...tml#564640

Currently I do not have any coolant/antifreeze in my coolant tank. Just water as its leaking very badly.

Once I fix the leak (hopefully) - Can I just buy some coolant from Halford(concentrated or not concentrated?) and then fill my coolant bottle/tank up with that?

OR do I have to have a professional flush my engine and then add coolant?

The car is 10 years old now if that makes any difference. Just money is very tight this winter and trying to save as much as i can, which isn't much haha...

Thanks for your input!!!!

You need a 50 / 50 mix of anti freeze & water if you buy the concentrated anti freeze.

Drop the lot out the system & do it correctly.

The ready mix stuff is more expensive Wink

Remember it need's to be OAT based antifreeze.

Just been watching some videos on the subject, not having a hose pipe/living in an apartment on the 2nd floor, I wont be able to flush it properly.

If the goal is for 50/50...

Can I not pour in 100% concentrate equivalent to the amount of water that the radiator would generally hold.

Then add an additional 50/50 mixture to the required level?

Its easier to do it right ...just take off the bottom hose(use a small socket on the jublee clip rather than a screwy)make sure its drained and reconnect then roughly mix equal parts of coolant and water into a container, best use waterin can 50/50_then fill your radiator and upto level on the expansion tank/hot water tank.

Now squeeze the bottom radiator hose a few times and with nothing fouling the moving parts of the engine start and run the engine.keep topping up at the radiator until it is full then put cap on...check the level in the expansion tank and top up if needed...then squeeze top hose and make sure no airlocks then fit cap to tank and its done....turn car off

You can only fill up from the expansion tank, not the radiator. Also, you'll need to bleed it at the bleed screws.

you shouldn't put 50/50 into the tank unless you drain the engine block as well :/
