#1: Should wing mirrors fold?? Author: Mounty, Location: United KingdomPosted: Sat Nov 17, 2012 3:56 pm ---- Need to fold my wing mirrors in (manual not electric) but daren't put any more pressure on them. Did the same to a Saxo and snapped one off.
They look as if they should fold and I need to get it into a narrow garage.

#3: Re: Should wing mirrors fold?? Author: Mounty, Location: United KingdomPosted: Sat Nov 17, 2012 3:58 pm ---- Thought so, may be a bit of WD in the joint??
Cheers BSi

#5: Re: Should wing mirrors fold?? Author: L5_UKS, Location: West MidlandsPosted: Sat Nov 17, 2012 4:11 pm ---- They should all fold if you push them in except the 180 ones as there electric so would ruin the motor if pushed by hand.
#6: Re: Should wing mirrors fold?? Author: broadblaster, Location: south coastPosted: Sat Nov 17, 2012 4:13 pm ---- i have had my 180 one's pushed in by others while parked up and they have been ok.

I always thought something like this might happen but someone had pushed mine in a couple of days ago when i came back to the car :@ Seems to work fine still
#9: Re: Should wing mirrors fold?? Author: L5_UKS, Location: West MidlandsPosted: Sat Nov 17, 2012 4:58 pm ---- It may go in but surely it isn't good for it as they are designed to work on a motor?
#10: Re: Should wing mirrors fold?? Author: DanT, Location: Torbay, EnglandPosted: Sat Nov 17, 2012 5:53 pm ---- Yeah i thought that but it doesnt seem to have damaged it this time at least, and i thought what if it got knocked in by a car coming the other way through some lanes etc? It must be able to take it i suppose?

referring to the folding electric mirrors and not just the electric mirrors. I've always gave this a thought whether it would damage, I know I had my mirrors pushed forward and didn't affect the motor.

I was referring to the ones that the actually mirror folds in on the flick of a switch (gti 180 only) not just moving the glass.

Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Sun Nov 18, 2012 5:53 am ---- The motor and gearing shouldn't be strong enough to withstand being pushed by hand. It doesn't stop them working but isn't good for them. They have to be designed to move by hand just in case. You can't be expected to replace an entire assembly because a woman with a pushchair has moved the mirror to get past, or the guy next to you in a car park has caught it trying to get into his car.
Had a C3 which had had it's mirror hit by a van. The mirror casing pushed back. Pushed the mirror casing back into the right place, flicked the switch and mirror has worked fine ever since.
I can't think of one car or van on the road that doesn't have folding mirrors (manual or electric) it's a safety feature since it's the part that sticks out the furthest.

#18: Re: Should wing mirrors fold?? Author: Mounty, Location: United KingdomPosted: Sun Nov 18, 2012 11:45 am ---- Moved my manual mirrors today just a few mm, wouldn't fold any further, but it gave me enough of a gap to get some WD40 in. Few minutes later they were folding in and out a treat!!
