#7: Re: Car won't start sayin econmy mode active Author: Deano, Posted: Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:15 am ---- What just touch a jump lead earth on battery to manifold then bsi reset
#8: Re: Car won't start sayin econmy mode active Author: Deano, Posted: Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:17 am ---- I read on Internet that econmy mode active is like the car being in sleep mode
#9: Re: Car won't start sayin econmy mode active Author: wonkey_18, Location: CornwallPosted: Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:33 am ---- econ mode will not deactivate unless the car is started. if you had an immobiliser fault come up that would be down to the key not 'unlocking' the ECU for allowing the car to start. OR i have had it on a HDi that their was a wire broke from the engine bay fuse box to the ecu. not sure on if its the same for a GTI.
#10: Re: Car won't start sayin econmy mode active Author: Rob2859, Location: HalifaxPosted: Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:41 am ---- I didn't see that you had already tried a BSI reset sorry.
The jump lead trick has nothing to do with the BSI reset. Just connect it up and try start it. If it starts then replace the earth cable on the battery.
Don't forget to try another battery, you never know it could be damaged from the impact.
I have also had the immobiliser triggered many times caused by a blown fuse.
#11: Re: Car won't start sayin econmy mode active Author: Deano, Posted: Tue Nov 20, 2012 3:57 pm ---- How did u get the immobiliser off or the car to start again after u trigger the mob I have checked all fuses and tried another battery where do u connect the jump lead to the battery terminal or just to battery earth lead
#12: Re: Car won't start sayin econmy mode active Author: Rob2859, Location: HalifaxPosted: Tue Nov 20, 2012 7:02 pm ---- Did you check the fuses inside the car and the outside?
When I replaced the blown fuse the car made a bong noise when i connected the battery back up.
Seen as you have very limited power I still think its a bad earth connection. Connect it to the negative battery terminal. The manifold was just an example of where to earth it, I don't have a heat shield so it was easy to put it there. It needs to be clipped to a large, unpainted piece of metal to earth out properly.
Failing that get a multi-meter and check you are getting 12V to the fuse box. There is a wire that runs straight from the battery to the fuse box, open the lid and test that end of the cable. If it reads 12v then move to the interior fuse box/BSI. You will see two thick wires that run into a big plug at the centre of it. (I think red and black but it might be yellow and red or something.) Check for 12v there as well. If you don't have a multi-meter ask someone who does to help you.
#13: Re: Car won't start sayin econmy mode active Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Wed Nov 21, 2012 3:52 am ---- Surely if it was an immobiliser fault, the car would still turn over, much in the same way it does when you swap key fobs over and leave the chip in the old one. The headlights and wipers will still work with the immobiliser enabled.
If you hit something hard enough to crack the sump, who knows what other damage you have done. Check the condition of the battery with a multimeter. Check all the wires and connections from the battery to the various components. Check the main fuses in the engine bay with a multimeter.
If no faults are found then something is badly screwed in the computer.
#14: Re: Car won't start sayin econmy mode active Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Wed Nov 21, 2012 4:14 am ---- A scan with Peugeot Planet is the next step forward.
How bad is the impact damage? you say it cracked the sump BUT what else is damaged?
Airbags fired?
Seatbelt pretensioners fired?
Airbag warning light going out after 5 - 8 seconds when you turn the ignition on?
#15: Re: Car won't start sayin econmy mode active Author: Deano, Posted: Wed Nov 21, 2012 7:06 am ---- No the airbags never went off the sump must of hit the curb it just made a hole but Neva damaged any think inside the sump I have checked all fuses they all seem to be ok I will try the jump lead trick after work n test for 12 volts and have good look at battery and get back to use the auto electrician was meant to come 8 this morning but won't come till it stops raining
