#2: Re: Cam Author: L5_UKS, Location: West MidlandsPosted: Thu Nov 22, 2012 9:08 am ---- You need the correct tools todo it and if you don't know what your doing I would really suggest you let someone who does do it.
#3: Re: Cam Author: MattyP, Location: PlymouthPosted: Thu Nov 22, 2012 9:17 am ---- I would let a garage do it tbh mate, when you do have the belt change i'd recommend replacing the water pump as well
#4: Re: Cam Author: Deano, Posted: Thu Nov 22, 2012 9:18 am ---- I can change them on most cars just not done one on a pug before as I only fix cars in my spare time but I will just get the tools and get a Haynes I should manage I will have my mate with me who is a mechanic it's just I am not familiar with these so I just gettin advice off people who know
#5: Re: Cam Author: Deano, Posted: Thu Nov 22, 2012 9:21 am ---- Ye I though I will do that anyway might aswell do the lot why it is out I might do the rest then take it down to my mates garage for him to put belt back on
#6: Re: Cam Author: Addaz, Location: SuffolkPosted: Thu Nov 22, 2012 12:13 pm ---- Tippex and drill bits do me for locking everything
As i cant ideally take the tools home incase it laps over to another evening

It's tight with the air conditioning pipes removed it's impossible with them still there so you have to shift the engine off it's mounts to make space.
#8: Re: Cam Author: imjeeves, Location: Glasgow / WellingPosted: Thu Nov 22, 2012 1:33 pm ---- Get a Haynes manual and its not too bad. Use drill bits and tip-ex to mark the timing and you cant really go wrong.
#9: Re: Cam Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Thu Nov 22, 2012 2:16 pm ---- Haynes manual covers the belt change in a 307 though. It overlooks the access problems in the 206.
#10: Re: Cam Author: Deano, Posted: Fri Nov 23, 2012 12:07 am ---- Ye that's ok I will have the engine out of the car is the holes for the locking tools on the side of the block because on fords they on front under alternator
#11: Re: Cam Author: Deano, Posted: Fri Nov 23, 2012 2:28 pm ---- Plz the time is getting nearer has anyone got any pics of the holes for the timing pins and how do u lock camshafts
#12: Re: Cam Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Fri Nov 23, 2012 3:09 pm ---- Cam pulleys have hole in them to lock them.
#13: Re: Cam Author: Deano, Posted: Fri Nov 23, 2012 3:16 pm ---- How do u lock crankshaft hopefully I will have engine out tomorrow so I will be able to have a good look is they any marks or just lock them at top dead centre
#14: Re: Cam Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Sat Nov 24, 2012 11:15 am ---- old trick ..... hold a stanley knife against the belt on idle in the centre of the belt until it is in two pieces. Stop engine and slacken tensioner. Remove outer piece of cut belt and slip new belt on halfway. Second half of old belt holds the timing in place. Cut off second half of belt and slip new belt on fully. Tighten tensioner
The above method is simply a quick way to change a belt without the proper locking devices and should only be attempted if you are confident the original timing was ok and you are of a reasonablly adept in mechanical issues.....
#15: Re: Cam Author: Deano, Posted: Sat Nov 24, 2012 11:43 am ---- The only thing is mate the engine will be out of the car it is coming Monday but I will keep that method in mind for future

And you can do the job with a few correct sized bolts through the cams and in the crankshaft pulley. There used to be a useful guide on here but I think it got lost when the forum member left ... Haynes is OK, but you'll find it isn't 100% clear.
I wouldn't use drill bits as there is very little room, so more chances of gouging your skin!! I lost plenty along with vital blood supplies doing the 206CC!!! I'd like to find the Frenchman that designed the 206 and make him do the next one!!!
