#1: GTI ABS fault Author: iancav6, Location: rugbyPosted: Sun Dec 02, 2012 8:49 am ---- The ABS on my 2002 GTI had started to occasionally cut in when travelling less than 10mph and generally when turning right.Had a look under it today and found the O/S driveshaft large diameter retaining clip had split allowing the boot to slip off the CV joint when steering applied. As the ABS sensor is at the back of the hub,I think the boot was interfering with the pick up and trigger ring.
Put a temporary tie-wrap on until I can get a metal clip.

#3: Re: GTI ABS fault Author: iancav6, Location: rugbyPosted: Tue Dec 04, 2012 1:32 pm ---- It feels like the brakes don't work at all.I think the boot confuses the ABS unit, it probably thinks the wheel it fully locked up as it doesn't see the trigger ring rotating.

#6: Re: GTI ABS fault Author: iancav6, Location: rugbyPosted: Wed Dec 05, 2012 3:09 pm ---- I have driven it about 70 miles since and it has been fine, when it would do it at least once a day before.
It only ever did it when turning right at low speed,if it was a reluctor ring it would be all the time and at any steering angle?
i will have clocked up another 100 miles by the weekend,if it hasn't done it by then, the boot was the problem.
