#1: my 206 is a total loss Author: lisa206, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sat Dec 15, 2012 8:40 am ---- Hi my 206 got hit by a lorry the other day while it was parked I came out of work to find it smashed up Im well gutted . But there's not major damage its just the driver side door wont open fully the drivers side wing will need replacing, but it drives fine as I drove it back that day . I told the insurance and an engineer came out inspected it and then I had a phonecall saying its a total loss cat C. Im not sure now whether to get the money for the car or just have the car back and try sort it.

Even after it's repaired, you'll always have it in the back of your mind and will hear all those strange noises that are already there, but you never notice.
#3: Re: my 206 is a total loss Author: Jack123, Location: Earl Shilton UKPosted: Sat Dec 15, 2012 9:22 am ---- Could be all kinds of damage done under the bodywork.
#4: Re: my 206 is a total loss Author: MrBSI, Location: What's it to you? ? ?Posted: Sat Dec 15, 2012 9:29 am ---- Its not your insurance paying for it, to cat C a 206 is easy these days as there worth sod all, take the money & buy something else that hasn't been smacked
#5: Re: my 206 is a total loss Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Sat Dec 15, 2012 9:32 am ---- Cat C on a 206 can be just a dented rear wing.
From the damage listed, you'd be looking at a new door, hinges and wing at the very least. That is going to make most 206s beyond economical repair. If there was more structural damage, I'd have expected the engineer to put it into cat B.
#6: Re: my 206 is a total loss Author: lisa206, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sat Dec 15, 2012 9:43 am ---- On the phone yesterday they told me the value is 960, or I can keep the car free of charge. Then I told them I would think about it and call them back. I have a courtesy car at the moment, as soon as I make the decision will they take this off me ?
Does any one know how long it takes to receive the money for the car ?
#7: Re: my 206 is a total loss Author: 20Drift, Posted: Sat Dec 15, 2012 10:14 am ---- If you take the money, they may let you keep the courtesy car until you can collect your new car. The money could be credited to your account, or you could be written a check. The former will be 1 business day normally, and the latter can take up to 14 days

#9: Re: my 206 is a total loss Author: bezford, Location: darlingtonPosted: Sat Dec 15, 2012 3:15 pm ---- Can u not get the money then buy the car back for a vastly reduced price???i know loads of people have done it or is that not possible because of the catagorie c rating ??? I know i would be asking them even if cat c is not allowing this???
Are u sure they didnt offer to give u the car back free of charge along with the money payout because just the car back on its own would not be reimbursing you because its your car in the first place...thats no payout from them at all and it wasnt your fault???id look into it as u might have heard them wrong at first???just tell them you eant the money but will also offer £200for the car...there better off that eay and so are you and money talks u know
#10: Re: my 206 is a total loss Author: lisa206, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sat Dec 15, 2012 4:44 pm ---- Yea thats a really good idea, I will try get the money and keep the car, see what happens.
#11: Re: my 206 is a total loss Author: usher, Location: northallertonPosted: Sun Dec 16, 2012 2:18 am ---- would like to know how this works as mine is going to be written off with rear wing damage and will be splitting it after buying it back hopefully for cheap enough
#12: Re: my 206 is a total loss Author: bezford, Location: darlingtonPosted: Sun Dec 16, 2012 4:11 am ---- Well ive never been so unlucky to crash in my 20+years of driving(honestly)but i know mates that have done it some more than once...i believe its just a case of bartering it back off your insurers as part of your settlement rather than scrapping it
So you get the outstanding cash and pay around a quarter or so of its true value...u will have to be frank with your insurer ...but dont forget its possible to buy cat c crashed cars from scrappys and fix them and use on the road again...
So if scrappys can trade them and sell to put them back on the road there's no reason why anyone cant buy them off there insurer and put them on the road...it will need a new mot type check..but why should only the svtap man benefit from these cat cs???
These used to be plated as q reg cars but they dont use the q plate anymore..they just keep the original regs...let me know how u get on pleez.....
#13: Re: my 206 is a total loss Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Sun Dec 16, 2012 5:01 am ---- DVLA set a marker against the vehicle on the database stating that it needs an identification check. They will not issue a new V5 if the vehicle is sold until the checks have been carried out. This was introduced to prevent ringing. This is what the VOSA inspection is for. As far as I know, they don't inspect the structure of the vehicle for safety.
Most insurance companies will have their preferred salvage companies that they will sell damaged cars to.
Things to consider with a repaired Cat C are that some insurance companies won't touch them or charge a higher premium and the market value of the vehicle is less than it was prior to the accident. If you come to sell the vehicle on (or have another accident), then it may stand you at a loss when you add up the original purchase price plus repairs. The Cat C status should show up on any HPI checks, which again affects the selling on of a vehicle.
Unless you have the knowledge and equipment to carry out repairs yourself, then it's unlikely that it will be cost effective to put the vehicle back on the road. Let's say the car was worth £1500 prior to the accident. The insurance will give you £1500 less any excess and outstanding monthly payments due on the policy. You decide that you want to buy the car back from the insurance. They charge you the value of the car as it stands in Cat C. Maybe £1200. The repairs cost another £500. You're already at a loss.
In most cases if you say you want to keep the vehicle, then they just won't pay out on the claim. So now you have an accident damaged vehicle with no money to spend on it, which needs a VIC before you can sell it.
Don't forget that insurance companies are a business and they want to make money. They will always take the option that makes them the most profit.
#14: Re: my 206 is a total loss Author: lisa206, Location: BirminghamPosted: Sun Dec 16, 2012 6:41 am ---- So I would be best off just getting the money for the car . I am going to just get the money and get another 206 with it, mine had a lot of miles anyway so I will just try get one with less. Still wish that lorry never hit my car though !
#15: Re: my 206 is a total loss Author: usher, Location: northallertonPosted: Sun Dec 16, 2012 9:14 am ---- i might be out of pocket then lol, mine is valued good con at 1200, if the third party accepts liability i might be ok but a have an access about 600 so would only be getting 600 if it went through my insurance, i wouldnt be fixing so that a bonus but how much they want off me for it might be the decider, hope not as there plenty of good parts on the car i mean its only cosmetic damage everything is sound nearly
