#1: can someone help identify these parts? Author: drunknmunky, Location: Blackburn and Catterick PostPosted: Fri Dec 28, 2012 4:16 am

I thought I had destroyed my car as driving along and it said oil pressure insufficient cut out and lots of oil leaking. Thought it was the sump but after looking it appears to be this part here? Think it's something to do with the oil cooler as it attaches to the part in front of the radiator by metal pipes? Just need some clarification on what it is and would I be able to upgrade to a better oil cooler if I'm having to fix this?

Well how the he'll does oil end up coming out of it and cause insufficient oil pressure?

Something to do with A/C. A/C doesn't use oil as the gas is the lubrication. Is there still oil in the engine?

That cylinder is the drier for the air conditioning. The metal pipes behind the bumper are for the power steering.

thats the AC bud, had to replace mine when i drove through a fence! its not really important had mine off the car for about 4 months before i fixed it
it wont be leaking oil thats just s**t that gathers on the top sticks to the grease
the pipe thingy you have circled just pushes together and is held in place by a spring! but same again its something to do with the AC

The oil has come from somewhere near that tho you'll just have to keep looking

Maybe the seal on the fittings has gone and leaked the air con oil out.

It appears to have done that but then why would it cause the engine to stop? I'm having a look all round that area tomorrow see what I can gather from this......

There is a seal burst from the looks of it as there is a metal ring loose on the piping hut like I said how would it effect engine and oil pressure?

In the second pic you can see the metal ring on the pipe I have pointed out which is loose and I had never seen it like this before .... wonder how it's effected the car and made it stop though? Did get a strong weird smell in the car through the air con when it happened.

My little ring was like that without any problem.

Mine too.

And yes it is the dryer not the condenser (which is the big panel at the front like a 2nd radiator)

Air con gas is under high pressure, so doesn't really leak, it would burst out. Is there oil in the engine? Has it been started since? You could try running the a/c. Does the oil have a smell?

Yeah well it kind of was a sudden burst and there was still oil in the engine but isn't anymore I don't think I'm going to have a look around that are for where the oil has come from failing this I don't know what else could have happened but something is causing there not to be enough oil pressure which is why I can't see it being this but when I had a quick lookthe other day I couldn't see anything else and this suddenly has oil around it? Which it didn't have before....

Would my memory serve me correctly.... this condenser is on the same side of the engine as the crank pulley?...... I would check down by that.... the oil pump is on that end of the crank and has a blanking cap holding the relief spring in place..... would the oils have sprayed out from there and gone on the belts. You would lose oil pressure also. Check round the crank pulley
