#1: side airbag Author: sheerness, Posted: Wed Jan 02, 2013 4:34 pm ---- Hi there again pug friends..
another day another problem, when we got the pug, the airbag light would flash all the time and the light next to that (yellow) looks like 2 people sitting with a belt across and side bags was on solid..
i have got a diagnostic kit with PP2000 to find out the fault and get it fixed. on the report it said the airbag ecu was at fault, so we have replaced this and the flashing light had stopped but the one that is next to it is still on and solid,
we have run the diagnostic again and it has come back with no faults whatsoever, do i have side airbags? i know there is one in the dash for front passenger and one in the steering wheel for the driver as they have the AIRBAG logo on the cover of them but i cant seem to find anything to suggest that i have side airbags......
also there are no wires at all under the seats so we can rule that one out. any help with this would be great guys, thanks in advance

#3: Re: side airbag Author: sheerness, Posted: Thu Jan 03, 2013 5:00 am ---- hi bezford thank for your reply, Nope there are no sign of anymore airbags, So this solid light is a mystery,

#4: Re: side airbag Author: Steve206, Location: UKPosted: Thu Jan 03, 2013 6:05 am ---- Sounds like your passenger side airbag is turned off. Is it still the man with the belt across (might have x2 written next to it)
Down below the ignition is the key hole to turn the airbag on/off.
#5: Re: side airbag Author: sheerness, Posted: Thu Jan 03, 2013 12:29 pm ---- hi there steve206 thanks for your reply, yeah there is a key system to turn on and off the passenger air bag, when the air bag is turned to off the airbag icon stays lit and the one next to it with 2 people with a belt across also stays on, and when turned to on the airbag light goes off so that is the correct operation for that system but the belted one still stays on, grrrr

#9: Re: side airbag Author: Steve206, Location: UKPosted: Thu Jan 03, 2013 3:30 pm ---- If you do a diagnostic again does it recognise the airbag ecu?
#10: Re: side airbag Author: sheerness, Posted: Thu Jan 03, 2013 3:53 pm ---- hi there and thanks again guys,
here is a link of the light the is solid on the dash board i1293.photobucket.com/...67db91.jpg
steve206 we have run the diagnostic again since the new airbag control unit and there are no faults at all on the airbag ecu..... plus the AIRBAG Light next to the solid light at the moment does not flash so working as it should.

#14: Re: side airbag Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Fri Jan 04, 2013 6:00 am ---- Front and side airbag warning light.
Did you clear any crash data from the replacement airbag ECU?
Did you change any settings using PP2000? There is a function where you can tell the ECU which airbags are fitted. If you fit seats without airbags, and the ECU thinks they should be there there, the light comes on. Change the setting and the light goes out or on, depending what you click.
Go back into PP2000 and check to see which airbags the ECU says should be fitted, and deactivate the ones you don't have.

The seatbelt light is red.

#16: Re: side airbag Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Fri Jan 04, 2013 7:25 am ---- Have you deployed a airbag and replaced it?
Not sure but doesn't the airbag Ecu need to be reprogrammed by pug once it has deployed a bag

I'm pretty sure Andy had to have his re-programmed or replaced when his side airbag went off, I forget what it cost now though.
#18: Re: side airbag Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Fri Jan 04, 2013 9:55 am ---- Just been out and checked my airbag ECU for it's configuration settings. I only have driver and passenger airbags. It might be different for a pre plex, but this could give you a reference point to start at.
#19: Re: side airbag Author: sheerness, Posted: Sat Jan 05, 2013 11:31 am ----
hay guys ok I have spent most of today trying to sort this problem out, I had this error with the seat belts pretension so I went to the scrap yard today and got 2 of them and connected them both and still have the same problem, I am pulling my hair out with it all. I have turned on the car with them disconnected and the airbag light start to flash, so quickly reconnected them, I am pretty sure that the are no connections on the thing that you put your seat belt in to, Arrrrrhhhhhh I don't fancy all of Sunday trying to do all this again and get no result! I am sure that the airbag have never gone off so I can rule that out....
again all and more advise is needed please guys,
I need to get to the bottom of this.
Kind Regards

Have you checked the configuration of the airbag ECU yet?
Check on service box for the characteristics of the car, basically what it left the factory with and it should tell you which airbags were fitted.
#23: Re: side airbag Author: sheerness, Posted: Sun Jan 06, 2013 9:17 am ---- hi guys still been trying to get this problem sorted, also a few errors that we are coming across, i have a few pics that i could do with a little help from someone?
also there is a screen to tell us that there is no reply from the ECU for some unknown reason ;(
#24: Re: side airbag Author: bezford, Location: darlingtonPosted: Sun Jan 06, 2013 9:34 am ---- Ive never used the pp yet so sorry cant help.
#25: Re: side airbag Author: macca1411, Location: Westhoughton, LancashirePosted: Sun Jan 06, 2013 10:06 am ---- On your second screen shot, when you hit "Enter" what fault information did it give you?
Go into the Airbag ECU configuration from the global test, and check to see what is and isn't activated. Check on servicebox as to what is fitted on the car. Activate or deactivate as required and it should sort out the dashlight. If needs be, just set everything to "absent". Set each item as "present" in turn and see which one illuminates the light. Just leave that as absent and you should be sorted and be able to pinpoint the area of the fault.
#26: Re: side airbag Author: Mattie-RS, Location: A Track near you ;)Posted: Sun Jan 06, 2013 10:32 am ---- With you replacing a part I think you may need pug to reconfigure the airbag ecu.
#27: Re: side airbag Author: sheerness, Posted: Sun Jan 06, 2013 1:27 pm ---- hi again I have got back in from the car, i am going to try and put in order of the screen grab of each part i have been trying to do.
