how do i check the temperature? like the temp gauge at side of speedo display, it happens at any temp. literally had it happen to me at every occasion it just doesnt make sense to me.

the temp gauge is on your dashboard, it sounds like that the fan is kicking in when you are in traffic/standstill where the temp will go up and the fan will kick on, this is normal, however check that you have enough coolant in the reservoir.

look at the temp gauge in your speedo, the fan should kick when it reach 98oC,so when it kick in again pay attention to the temp gauge,as you always should while driving.

and it's better to change your car theromstat and coolant every year as Preventive maintenance Smile

Domo: buy a Haynes manual. They are never perfect but always worth having.

Coolant temp-gauge is xtremely inaccurate.
Fan can come-on with gauge showing 89 deg.

V9977: +1

Spent a lot of time getting the cooling system right in my daughters 1.4LX and the fan comes on at an indicated 90.

You've probably only got an oil temp gauge. Mine doesn't come at all really this time of year. Sounds like you need a coolant flush though, probably a new thermostat as well
