#1: GTi Slow Turnover Author: Mr-Tigger, Location: EssexPosted: Sun Jan 13, 2013 10:23 am ---- Only on day two and in true puegeot style its misbehaving, the battery light is always on when engine not running but that hasnt bothered me as the quicksilver did that also and yet still ran music and sub without dying HOWEVER the starter motor turning over is VERY slow. odd thing is it catches first attempt/spark every time but it sounds very laboured and slo-motion.....? got warranty on it but want to know what to tell the guy to change so he doesnt try pull a fast one.
PS: yes its had a few long runs that would normally charge the battery up if low

It could also be a starter motor but I doubt it.
I suspect that the battery is getting tired.
Put it on trickle charge overnight. If that doesn't help or last then get a "drop" test done. Any good garage will have the kit to do this including the one you bought it from if they also do repairs and it is usually free.
My daughters was like this for over a year. One failed start in all that time but a charge and it was the same for another 6 months. I eventually replaced the battery before it failed all together. New battery (higher capacity) and it is like a sewing machine it spins over so fast.

Car Mechanics magazine says that alternators don't fully charge batteries. If it's been flat it needs a battery charger to fully charge it. An alternator doesn't do this.
#4: Re: GTi Slow Turnover Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Sun Jan 13, 2013 11:12 am ---- PS: The battery light is on on every car when the engine is not running. Well everyone I have ever seen and that is how they are designed to work
#5: Re: GTi Slow Turnover Author: Mr-Tigger, Location: EssexPosted: Sun Jan 13, 2013 11:17 am ---- ooooooooookay, maybe all my other cars have been buggered then because they come up briefly then go off,not stay on all time. it suppose to be a warning aint it??
connections are fine as been lookin at speakers and headunit today sp they been off and on. battery test sounds like best bet for diagnosis then
edward, may not fully charge but surely they charge it enough to crank the engine over properly??
#6: Re: GTi Slow Turnover Author: macj, Location: EssexPosted: Sun Jan 13, 2013 11:41 am ---- Battery light is always on till engine is running.... get a drop test done and invest in a good quality battery fro someone like GSF if it fails... they supply Banner which I use all the time.
Apart from that bring it to me and I will check it for free as you are an info member... chelmsford BTW
#7: Re: GTi Slow Turnover Author: Mr-Tigger, Location: EssexPosted: Sun Jan 13, 2013 12:08 pm ---- Well, after how many years driving ya learn something that should have been obvious lol, always thought it was just on to warn low battery eg running sound system without engine running.
Thanks for the offer macj, will see what the dealer says thursday and go from there. going on a long run tonight so see if that helps even remotely for a sign its just a low battery
#8: Re: GTi Slow Turnover Author: Ciucur, Location: NorthamptonPosted: Sun Jan 13, 2013 12:44 pm ---- I had the exact same problem until I changed my battery 2 days ago. Mine used to do a "slow-motion" start, sometimes taking up to 4-5 seconds to start. With the new battery fitted it stars in under 1 second woop.
Eurocarpars offer a 20% discount on batteries.
