#1: Peugeot 206 GTI 180 - 215/40 r16 tyre size Author: existenz PostPosted: Thu Jan 17, 2013 4:56 pm

Hello folks,

I'm about to buy some lightweight rims for my 180 GTi this summer. Thinking about OZ Ultraleggera or Sparco Assetto Gara. Now I'm unsure about the tyre size. Possibilities are 205/40 r17 (7x17); 205/45 r16 (7x16) and 215/40 r16 (7x16).
Just want to know if anyone here drives with the latter tyre size. Is there any noticable increase in grip and directness over the smaller tyres? Any experiences or comparisons?

Thanks

I'm a little bit confused, are you trying to decide on buying 17" or 16" wheels?
Or trying to decide whether to run either of the different 16" profiles you've posted?
16" wheels would be the optimum size on a 206 imo anyway for a good compromise between weight, looks and obviously the circumference of the wheel makes a difference to acceleration etc.

7x17 - 195/45 R17
7x16 - 195/45 R16

I wouldn't run a 205 width tyre on a 7J wheel unless your a 'I must conform to car manufacturer sizes' sort of person.

No one on this form will run a 215/40 because it will be the same as running a 205/45 tyre which is too big for the 206 as it'll scrub on full lock.

@DanT
17" is an option, but I'm looking for 16" actually, as our roads here are in a bad condition.

@Uz
I'm running on 205/45 16" right now, absolutely no scrubbing.
The rims I'm looking for are only available in 7J and in addition 7,5J adds more weight the wheel.
Are there any benefits from 195 over 205 on 7J?

True match on the width and very little to no sidewall flex.

Yeah apologies, 215 40 is 205 50. It'll also throw the speedo out.

Might add weight, but it'll increase traction due to a greater surface area.

195 tyres on a 6.5" wide rim look skinny. 195 on a 6.5" wheels would be silly. Stick to a 205 tyre.
