#1: Brakes grinding Author: 206gti_chris, Location: SussexPosted: Tue Jan 29, 2013 3:53 pm ---- Had new discs and pads put on a month ago by a garage, now occasionally when braking i can hear a grinding sound, as if a tiny stone got traped in between the disc and pad while braking, this only lasts in the short time of braking then when brakes applied again you cant hear the sound, then the abs light comes on and stays on. Probably likely to take the car back to the garage anyway but i thought id give it go on here see if its anything i could check if its something simple

As you said go back and get them to sort it. It's not right and you paid them to do a job, it's up-to them to correct it.

Upy can take the car for a short run, without relying to much on the brakes, and check to see of there got when you stop. Abs light could be a few things do you need to get it code read.
#6: Re: Brakes grinding Author: Steve-o, Posted: Wed Jan 30, 2013 1:20 pm ---- You shouldn't have too much bedding in to do with brand new discs and pads - bedding is where old discs score their wear marks on the pads. The better the surface the quicker the breaks should take.
Go back to the garage. I've not looked at the breaks on my 206 yet but I've seen people change Ford brake pads and put the clips round the caliper the wrong way. The pads then slip and the disc grings a channel along the top edge of the outside pad or wears a noticable slope because it's sitting at an angle to the disc. Makes the exact noise you're experiencing but it's usually there all the time as the caliper 'floats' on the pad as the wheel turns. You get a whoosh, whoosh as you drive and a grind as you brake.
Failure to give your calipers a good clean when changing pads often gives you lots of nasty little grinding noises. I'd put my bet on that one first.
