Hi all,

I've just had another flat tyre and have decided enough is enough, I need to get a spare as that tyre weld stuff is useless.

Can anyone advise what size spare I will need to fit? I've done a lengthy search but can't find a definitive answer. Some say 15, some say 16, and also will it be safe to drive as my tyres are 17's?

You won't be able to mate unfortunatly..the reason 180's have tyre weld is the twin exhaust back box goes where the space saver usually goes however if you have a janspeed it would be fine Smile hope this helps Smile

Normal GTi space saver will live in the boot (make sure it's tied down) but it won't fit over the front calipers apparently. So if you get a front puncture you need to put a good rear wheel on the front and the space saver on the back.

i felt like doing this to mine as i had a flat and needed to call my dad out to bring a spare nimrod to me!

if you have a janspeed exhaust it is possible otherwise its not as been said, as edward says it will need to go onto the back, but imo you should never have a space saver on your steering wheels

Put the space saver on the back on a wet road...try a roundabout at even a modest speed and you'll need to be applying opposite lock!

My GTI180 has a Janspeed so I've fitted a spare wheel cage into place and used a full size spare of the wheels I've got on the car atm in there in a spare wheel bag.

Swapping wheels about isn't a problem for me, after spending 5 hours in the cold waiting for the RAC i'll be happy to do it!

I can only find 15 inch space savers. Is the standard gti space saver a 16 inch or will a 15 inch be ok with my 17 inch wheels?

Thanks again guys.
