206 1.4 Broken down but car starts?

#1: 206 1.4 Broken down but car starts? Author: robotacha PostPosted: Sat Feb 02, 2013 4:48 am

Hello,

I hope someone can give me advice on what my problem might be related to.

I have a 1998 206 1.4lx.

Since purchasing it, I was having idle problems (revs fluttering between 700rpm & 1300 rpm at idle) and it would also stal / cutoutl when approaching islands, junctions etc.

Cleaning the throttle body and ICV would work for a day or so, then it would return to its problematic state.

a friend disconnected the ICV (I think) and adjusted the revs higher. THis solved the fluttering revs problem, but I still had the problem of it cutting out / stalling when I pressed the clutch or approached islands/junctions.

Yesterday, the car brokedown.
The car will start, and rev as much as I want it to when I press the accelerator. BUT, as soon as I try to pull off, the car dies completely.

I can move the car alittle by holding the clutch half way and giving lots of gas (4000+ rpm) but as soon as I come off the clutch completely, the car simply jolts and stalls.

I have done a little research online, and have a possibility of 3 problems.

MAP vaccuum pipe?
Single Injector problem?
Throttle body problem?

Can anyone here suggest the cause of the problem? had a similar problem?

I need my car for work so need it fixing ASAP. I dont want to go and spend money though on a part which I may not need.

I know I need a throttle body for starters.

THanks for your help Very Happy

Does the car free wheel?

If it revs normally and stalls when the clutch is released, I'd be looking at the transmission or possibly the more common seized brake drum problem.

Just sounds like the engine doesn't like any sort of load...could be numerous things. I'd get it plugged in to see if all sensors are showing the correct info.

My car has done this sort of thing in the last couple of weeks. But on a smaller scale. Almost as if i was trying to pull off with the handbrake on. It would not pull off and stall, and after a couple of restarts, a little jolt and the car would be fine.

I put it down to a blockage? My mate suggested a seized brake / caliper problem.

Now the main incident occurred 2 days ago. I tried for an hour to get it to pull off. I left the car there on the road.
I went back just after posting this topic, started car, it drove off like nothing ever happened.....

So something over the last 2 days has corrected itself which would now indicate a brake seize problem ??

I'm drove it to my Mates garage and he will look at it tomorrow.

What would be the main identifiers of the problem? What should I look for around the brake area for symptoms? Or would it be perfectly clear ?

I'm worried that the brakes might seem fine (as they feel fine) and it could happen again.

Jack the rear of the car up, release the handbrake and see if you can spin both wheels by hand. If you can't then the shoes are binding on the drum, usually caused by the friction material about to part company with the shoe. When it goes completely, then your foot just goes to the floor and you get very little braking effect.

New shoes and a good service on the brakes normally solves the issue.

Check the spark plugs, and coil pack.
