New bonnet wont lock into place
-> 206 Problems

#1: New bonnet wont lock into place Author: juanfernandes, Location: London PostPosted: Sat Feb 02, 2013 11:22 am

Just fitted a new bonnet to my 206 - brand new from Peugeot.

Now when I push it down, it wont lock into place, its like the metal loop on the bonnet is not long enough.

Now Im not sure if this is due to the bonnet design changing or its because of the accident my car was in.

Does anyone know if its likely they changed the lock/loop of the 206's at some point?

Going to have another look tomorrow.

Thanks

Probably just needs adjusting.

well since you had accident,I would say the rear panel where the latch is been pushed,so you can try to pull it by your hands,if not then you need a bodyshop to do it for you.

Thanks for the replies.

I tried unscrewing the latch/lock and seeing if I could put it back in at a slightly different angle, but that didn't work.

Im going to try and get another latch/lock and seeing if that makes a difference.

If it doesn't, then trip to a bodyshop.

Im going to take it into a body shop.

I think where the car was hit, at an angle front drivers side, the car is no longer straight - I'm guessing this because the drivers wing now has a bigger gap at the top, than at the bottom along the door.

Can body shops fix that kind of stuff and will it be expensive?

Thanks

Damm. Not sure I could manage that though, would most likely make it worse.

Well it can be fixed, they will pull it back together, but it might need a paint job after that with the damaged part, about the cost, there is not harm to have few quotes before you do it.

My bonnet now locks into place.

After alot of investigation, I found that the plastic housing for the rad/fan etx at the front, has 2 plastic prongs at the bottom that slot into holes - well ones of them broke in the crash, so it was being pulled inwards.

Sanded off what was left of the prong and drilled a hole and put a bolt in it.

Its a temp fix so it gets through the MOT.
