#1: Aux belt / tensioners squeal - NOW WORSE! Author: Tolkienfan001, Location: SpaldingPosted: Sun Feb 03, 2013 3:45 pm ---- Guys,
I need a pointer in the right direction. I am getting a squeal from the above belt / tensioner.
How do I know if it is just the belt or the tensioner?
Is there more than one tensioner?
Can I get a kit to change everything? I have looked on ECP and can only see the belts.
I am not sure what to buy or how to diagnose the exact part that is failing.
Any advice will be appreciated. Last edited by Tolkienfan001 on Thu Feb 07, 2013 4:40 pm; edited 1 time in total

It was the lazy mans solution to a slipping fan belt. You could try this as a cheaper solution first.
If you do the belt yourself, make sure you get the right tension as many people over tighten them and end up knackering the alternator bearing. For some reason, this is always the first thing to go with an overtightened belt.

I have heard about this belt spray. I take it any one will work. If it stops the noise I take it I can assume the tensioners are ok? Should I still replace the belt at some point?

It's always worth changing a part before it fails, if it's making a noise, then something is wrong. It's a case then of tracking down the reason.

Now when the car starts I get a sticky sound instead of the squealing. This goes off after a couple of minutes. Then you can just hear a sort of hissing sound from the belt.
I am going to buy a replacement belt tomorrow. Is there a guide anywhere on here to help change it. Will I need to clean the rollers? Or do anything else when changing it?
Thanks.

Thanks,
I have a new belt. As long as the weather holds off I will change it after work....
