Hello forum!

Could be so kind as to help me with a few problems?

I live in Barcelona and my girlfriend recently got us an old 206 gti cheap.

It needs to be serviced and as these cars are new to me, I wanted to run a few things past you before I take her in as I want to avoid being over charged...

There are lots of things I noticed are wrong, I think some are just quirks of teh car and some are more serious, If I give you a little list, could you let me know what to look out for when I take her in for a service?

1)front suspension knocking over bumpy ground
2) rattle from passenger side under car, something is loose...
3) turning corners at low speed makes slight grinding noise..
4) Ticking sometimes (sounds like injectors)
5) Heating up, might need some oil, will check levels today
6) wet footwell driver-side, (could be bulkhead leak, air con)
7) squeaky breaks (pads?)
8 ) gearbox feels a bit crap ( i think this is normal) Very Happy

Apart from all this the engine actually runs really nice, and its quite quick

let me know if you can help!

Cheers in advance!

Lee

What do you mean by heating up, if it is over heating and you have a wet passenger footwell then your heater matrix could well have had it.

sorry yeah by that I meant, the engine temp seems to get a little bit hot, think it may be the Heater Matrix as you say...

Options from:-

1)front suspension knocking over bumpy ground
Briken spring, bottom wishbone or ball joint, drop link, track rod end, anti roll bar bushes.

2) rattle from passenger side under car, something is loose...
Exhaust, bottom wishbone, anti roll bar bushes.

3) turning corners at low speed makes slight grinding noise..
Drive shaft CV joint, tyre rubbing wheel arch liner.

4) Ticking sometimes (sounds like injectors)
Injectors, cam followers, coil pack arching

5) Heating up, might need some oil, will check levels today
You have bothered to ask for help but haven't even checked the basics. How lazy and how can we guess? Also what temp are you seeing on the gauge? Low oil, low water, head gasket starting to fail (is there oil scum in the water header tank or white slim in the oil filler cap) blocked radiator, failing water pump, defective sensor.

6) wet footwell driver-side, (could be bulkhead leak, air con)
Bulkhead leak, blocked a sunroof vent, previous owner spilt water.

7) squeaky brakes (pads?)
Pads, lack of anti squeal compound on the pad / piston interface, stone dust trapped between pad and disc or stone dust embedded on pad faces.

8 ) gearbox feels a bit crap ( i think this is normal)
"Feels a bit crap" is subjective and to vague to answer. Measure the gear lever movement between gears.
