Clutch adjuster cable
-> 206 Problems

#1: Clutch adjuster cable Author: iggyyl PostPosted: Tue Feb 05, 2013 4:28 pm

Clutch is making a clicking sound and then wont go into gear, I know it's the adjuster cable but how do I fix it do I need a whole new cable or do I literally just adjust it?? Sorry if any of this sounds silly I'm still learning!! But would be good if it just needs adjusting as it's obviously free! Also, if I carry on driving it like this will it wreck anything?? I'm still driving it now as it only happens every so often but just wondering as people on here have probably had experience of this?

And while I'm here how do i put a pic/ avatar up?

The cable is not adjustable but you can try one thing.

Press clutch pedal to the floor. Slide your foot off the pedal sideways so that the clutch pedal flies back towards you. That will sometimes release a sticking adjuster.

Get you leg out of the way before you slide your foot off the clutch. It darned hurts when the pedal hits you in the shin!

Sometimes when the pedal flies back it stops quite high up and feels jammed in position. You may have to press it quite hard to make it go down again.

I just did it so will see if it happens again (not going into gear and everything)! Thanks Smile

Sorry iggyyl. Good luck with getting a new cable fitted. If you haven't try two or three times; it sometimes takes more than one attempt.

How will I know if it's fixed? If you get my drift as it doesn't make the clicking sound all the time

When you can engage gears should be a good enough indication. This not a guaranteed fix just sometimes it works.

A few other posts here and it worked for my daughters car. Bought cheap because seller thought clutch was going. Did the cable trick and clutch has worked perfect ever since.
