i changed the cambelt on the car today, everything went well apart from me leaving off the ground cable for the alternator. when i started the engine it started sparking so i went to investigate and then the engine died. it was still sparking so i pulled the battery. the car has locked itself with the keys in the ignition. i have a spare but its miles away at home and have no way of getting home. anyone have any suggestions? i have sorted the alternator cable so its just a case of getting into the car......

Thanks in advance

If the other key is a remote fob one then try calling the person with the key whilst standing next to the car and getting them to press unlock down the phone. Don't know if it works but its worth a try

I've also heard if it doesn't work like this, you need to put your right foot in a bucket of water and the middle finger of your left hand in your left ear. This increases the strength of the signal. If the signal still isn't strong enough, just get more people to link arms with you while they do the same as you with the bucket and finger. The more people you get, the stronger the signal.

Its a 206, there pretty easy to open without damage if you know what your doing & have the correct tools.

Either get someone to bring you the spare key OR call an auto locksmith to open it.

Use a universal key......a brick to the rear quarter window, then hope it doesn't rain.

If the OP knows the key number they could always go & get another key cut to open the door.
