Also get someone to scan the car with a diagnostics machine to see if they can point you in the right direction.
What engine do you have?

Then try swapping the plug from that cylinder to another then the same with a injector, if the misfire follows the part you swap, it points to a faulty component.

#6: Re: lumpy choking running off cylinders Author: richpowell91, Location: Melton Mowbray LeicestershirePosted: Mon Feb 11, 2013 4:28 pm ---- I would try and see if you can find the misfire first, i had ngk plugs in mine for 2 years and never had a problem.

#8: Re: lumpy choking running off cylinders Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Tue Feb 12, 2013 12:39 pm ---- If you have an exhaust blow before the lambda sensor the lambda sensor will see the excess O2 and think the car is running lean and the ECU will throw buckets of fuel at it to compensate.
That is the problem with modern ECU managed engines. If there is a fault the ECU "sees" it, usually thinks it is something else, the feedback circuit kicks in and compensates for a fault that is actually something different.
Fix the exhaust leak first. Do not do anything else until then.
You may also find that the excess fuel has destroyed your lambda sensor and you may need to replce that. Lambda sensors despite their ability to withstand heat don't like lots of fuel.
So, fix exhaust, fix lambda sensor (if needed) and engine management light and go from there.
If you really think the big manufacturers make poor plugs I say think again. I have read the threads and am not disputing what people find but I have only ever had one bad plug in my 35 years as a mechanic and that was a "Golden Lodge" plug that are special ones for Alfa boxers. I have never had any other big brand plug let me down.

#10: Re: lumpy choking running off cylinders Author: Mikenulster, Location: Nothern IrelandPosted: Mon Feb 18, 2013 12:52 pm ---- just want to ask.. ive now changed the cat down pipe brawn new and sounds alot better but its still off one cylinder so before i replace the lambda sensor tomorrow would it be the manafold one ? thanks
#11: Re: lumpy choking running off cylinders Author: kandlbarrett, Location: SwindonPosted: Fri Feb 22, 2013 1:31 pm ---- If you haven't done so already a fault code reader will tell you which sensor is defective.
#12: Re: lumpy choking running off cylinders Author: Mikenulster, Location: Nothern IrelandPosted: Fri Feb 22, 2013 3:38 pm ---- already changed the manifold one mate 100% better worked better for everything cheers !
