#1: engine and warnings. Author: eddie206 PostPosted: Tue Feb 19, 2013 4:42 pm

Hi guys..ive had the engine warning light on my 2002 137 206gti for a good while now without any obvious problems but for around a month or more now ive had on both the engine warning and now the anti pollution warning on my multiplexed gti. I did have the exshaust backbox and centre pipe renewed around autumn last year with a hole that developed between the cat and the centre pipe being welded together just before december and there's no other problems...so what i need is just some advice about code readers if you please???
So...
Where is the best place to get it done?small garage.auto electrics.large orivate garage.dealer garage.mobile mechanics???
How much should i expect to pay???
What is the cheapest usable reader u could buy that will do the job satisfactorarily?(i have laptop).
Does anyone near Yarm/Middlesboro have the kit and will do it for bevvy bucks??
Thankyou guys...

Anti-pollution can be a number of faults mate, could be anything from a faulty sensor to a faulty exhaust system. Best thing to do is to get the codes read by someone with peugeot planet software near you. Surely someone on here will have it round by where you are mate. Once you've had the codes read by peugeot planet you can go from they're as to what you need to do.

Most code readers give you a generic code. A list of the generic codes can be found here

If someone has PP near you, it's better to use that as it offers the option of explaining what the fault is. You can't just enter the code on PP and get the answer.

You can pick up a decent usb e-obd cable and software bundle on ebay for a few quid. All in one handheld units are slightly dearer. PP2000 cable and software usually goes for anything from £70 for a clone version upto a hefty sum for the genuine version. PP also needs a computer running XP to operate.

Nip to a garage and tell them you have a fault and you want an estimate. They will plug in a code reader and should give you the codes and an estimate for the repair. Tell them that you're short of cash and will book it in in a couple of weeks. Free code read sorted. Even after the repair, the code will still be stored until it's cleared with a code reader.
