Auto revving
-> 206 Problems

Hi, I have a 1999 206 1.4.

Recently it developed this problem that when I start the car the revs shot up to 20 and stay there....once I start driving even during in gear I feel the car as the gas is pressed when I am not. And when I change gears the revs have a mind of their own....and sometimes automatically while idle it starts reving from 11 to 20 and down, up, down...alone...

its driving me crazy! Some told me that I might have some blockage and told me to rev it up alot.
I waited for the car to warm up and started reving alot but the problem still persisted...

the only thing I noticed that reduced the frequency of this problem is when I turn it off and back on again Shocked

any help would be appreciated.

clean your idle control valve, if it persists then replace it. if it STILL persists repeat the process with your MAP sensor

is this something i can do? or should i take it to the mechanic?
If someone could give me some simple instructions of how to remove/clean the idle control valve would be very helpful

hey, so got around cleaning my idle control valve, it was dirty and I gave it a good clean with a carb cleaner and air...

but the problem sometimes still persist. Its much better but sometimes while shifting gears it holds the revs up. Should my next step be the MAP sensor? Is there any specific way to go around cleaning the map sensor?

Thank you

It may be worth a try but they are very delicate so do not try scrubbing it with anything just spray clean with carb cleaner.

IMO it looks like you have found the problem (ICV) but not completely cured it. Try cleaning the ICV again, including the hole it fits into.

If that doesn't work move on to MAP sensor. If that fails then I suggest new ICV.

carb cleaner won't hurt being sprayed into the hole. Just be careful you don't get it onto the paintwork. Some carb cleaners make very good paint stripper!
