#1: new door mirror - old screws don't match Author: Sim, Location: West CountryPosted: Wed Feb 27, 2013 2:52 pm ---- Hello,
Bought from flea-bay new door mirror (description said "REMOVED FROM A 2006 PEUGEOT 206 MK1 98-10, 3Dr HATCH", it would fit them all sort-of tales) - plastic housing, screw threads are big (on the right of the picture).
Meanwhile the original buckled door mirror one has metal housing with threads in them (see picture on the left).
Everything fits, apart from the screws don't hold the mirror tight at all.
Screws do not fasted 100% and 'slip' at the end of the thread of course. Once inside trim panel is fitted, the mirror holds, but has a play - not driving with such one.
Sender did not include any screws. Can you check if there are special screws for this type mirror, as I don't want to start playing about with random bolts risking to split the thread..
Cheers, wonder if I should return the item. All the more, the middle part of the sticker on the mirror is not coming off (such a stubborn glue!) maybe hair-dryer could get it moving...

Metal type mirror base uses machine screws.
Plastic type mirror base uses self tapping screws.
#6: Re: new door mirror - old screws don't match Author: Sim, Location: West CountryPosted: Wed Feb 27, 2013 6:16 pm ---- Ok, I swapped the plastic base with metal base, some inconsistencies on screwing 3 all bolts from below upwards, the pivot part where mirror folds in, but holds fine on 2 screws.
Perfect temporary solution, and even mirror folding works, no play in stability.
Small victory at £12.50 cost of a mirror and one evening of DIY..
Now where do I find matching self tapping screws?
Cheers,
