little bit of a update, my pockets are now £200 lighter.

was dropping the boss lady off at work when the clutch decided to pack up out of the blue without warning, could only get the car in gear with the engine not running.
i dropped the car off at my local garage who found that this part - (number 5)

was snapped into loads of mini bits inside and mushed the clutch.

the garage replaced the part and fitted a new clutch, also new g/box oil, drive shaft seals and clutch cable.

on the down side the heater blower is only blowing on full and wont turn off.

Thats nice and cheap! Was it the releasing bearing that gave up on the clutch ?

the release bearing was very warn

Happened to me too they seam to be very weak !

One question, how did it pass an MOT not long ago with so many warning lights out ?

#12: Re: cheap 206 tidy up Author: tsotd, Location: kent PostPosted: Tue Mar 19, 2013 2:50 pm
    ----
my guess is that they where working fine when it had the MOT (well the lights that were needed) or it was a very friendly tester

#13: Re: cheap 206 tidy up Author: Jeffers PostPosted: Tue Mar 19, 2013 6:18 pm

Probably the latter unfortunatley !

bit of a update....

me being one of the last of the big spenders i got a "carbon look" (dont look anything like carbon) tax disc holder, looks loads better than the sticky tape holding it to the dash.

next gave it abit of a hovering, took the front/rear seats and door cards off. under the back seats there was loads of saw dust and wood chippings, under the front seats where just dead leaves and moss/mold growing. after giving it a hover i gave the carpet a going over with some "shake n vac".

MMmmm nice...

as i was missing one of the wing mirror caps i got some used carbon wrapped ones off ebay, being used there is a little nick on one of them but you cant notice it without looking.

i also replaced the bonnet badge with a carbon wraped one off ebay, again this is 2nd hand so cheap but when i fitted it i noticed that the quality was very poor and im unimpressed with it. if i was new i would be wanting my money back.

last thing, ive now got a working clock Smile

clock - £25
badge - £6
mirror caps - £7
tax disc holder - £1

total -£39

so at the moment - £462

I'd definitely add some phase 2 headlights and rear's. oh and of course nimrod alloys if you can get a cheap decent set on the bay.

IMO the 138 gti shouldnt of been the "206 gti", its too warm to be a hot hatch so to answer your question im kind of embarrassed to call it a "gti"

i am/was very happy with them until today i noticed that the wrap had bubbles and was peeling in places. cost me afew pence under £40 off ebay so im going to message the seller about the peeling.

you can see the peeling on the inside of the door handles

bubbles/ripples and peeling by the vent

afew more bubbles

again peeling on the handle

got the replacment parts fitted today and they are loads better, no bubbles or peeling.

not going to bore you with loads of pics, just one of the door handle to show the improvment

10 out of 10 to the ebay seller for sorting it out.

i think thats it for the cosmetics for now, need to start on the oily stuff now

37 quid for a set in good enough nick, was there tyres??

#31: Re: cheap 206 tidy up Author: tsotd, Location: kent PostPosted: Sun Aug 11, 2013 2:25 am
    ----
one of the wheels is abit scabby, the paint has bubbled on it so will look into a refurd sometime in the future.

the tyres are a mix and match of different makes, also 2 are 205/45/16 and the other 2 are 195/45/16.

i put the 2 205's on the rear but both of them are directional tyres for the same side so one is pointing the wrong way.

bit of an update..

road tax ran out at the start of the month so i got 6 months worth.

came out to the car monday morning (after a week of not using the car) and found the exhaust falling off

after jacking up the car and having a look it seems that one of the rubber mounts had broke and the back box had rusted.

and off the back box....

ive ordered a new one off ebay, afew pence under £50 for the backbox, clamp and 2 rubber mounts, just waiting for it to turn up.

also got some clear headlights but havent fitted them, will update when ive got them on the car.

the backbox turned up today

fitted it but it seems to sit abit to the side

also that the tail pipe sticks out abit more than the old one

and one more pic

i think it could be down to the middle rubber mount being very warn or that its just a pattened part.
still looks fine tho

bit of an update,

over the wet xmas time the old girl has been great, not one problem much to my suprise.

anyway MOT time is slowly creeping up so i booked her into a local garrage just to give her the once over.
they said she will need the following for the MOT -

tyres x4 (fronts are abit thin on the ground of tread and there is tyre wall damage to the rears)
off side shock is leaking (time of an upgrade then)
off side wishbone bush worn (best do both sides then)
off side brake hose perished (think i'll get a pair of braided ones then)

got till the middle of feb to get it sorted so loads of time Smile

some goood updates there, like the gti interior it makes a massive improvment, how come it didnt have it to begin with, and the engine bay how do people care so little to loose/brake the cover washer botle and batery cover

#44: Re: cheap 206 tidy up Author: tsotd, Location: kent PostPosted: Sun Jan 26, 2014 5:32 am

my guess is that some point in its life it had been in a crash and the airbags had gone off so the interior was replaced with anything cheap.
nothing came up on the HPI but the passinger wing is messy with overspray and poor pannel gaps

bit of an update...

went to GSF today and picked up some wishbones, droplinks and top mount bearings.

also got some coilovers, just need to give them a good clean up...

#46: Re: cheap 206 tidy up Author: tsotd, Location: kent PostPosted: Fri Mar 07, 2014 3:17 am

update

so after fitting the coilovers, new top mount bearings, new wishbones, new droplinks and a new brake hose she now has passed her MOT.

on the down side i had to fit the old steel wheels as the tyres i ordered are too big.

oh and i got another 6 months tax.

now we are thinking of selling her as we really need a car with back doors to cope with having 2 kids

excellent work with all the changes you've really done be a shame to let her go with all the handwork and effort gone in, have you got a link to the carbon dash bits as contemplating wether to buy them have you had any peeling since you had the replacements? thanks
