#1: Cylinder head help please Author: bikesforme, Posted: Thu Mar 21, 2013 4:46 am ---- Hi, I have a 2001 1.4 lx petrol 206 and the part number on my head is 9634005110. I have brought another head to rebuild has mine is leaking oil at head gasket slightly, its got the same part number but was removed from a 2005 1.4 c3.
On putting my inlet gasket on from my gasket kit, it does not line up proper, can anyone tell me if i have the wrong head or wrong gasket set.
Thanks

This is a photo of the c3 inlet and my new gasket, how do i get it to fit my 2001 206 if spacing is different, or have i got the wrong gasket. Thanks

If the original one is sound just get it skimmed & refit it.
#5: Re: Cylinder head help please Author: bikesforme, Posted: Thu Mar 21, 2013 1:17 pm ---- The reason i did not do the original head is because i use the car daily and can not have it off the road long. I saw this head off ebay and its been skimmed but never put back on car and was cheap .
My plan was to reground the valves and port the exhaust and inlet to match the gbaskets
#6: Re: Cylinder head help please Author: Steve206, Location: UKPosted: Thu Mar 21, 2013 1:53 pm ---- Sure that's not an exhaust gasket?
#7: Re: Cylinder head help please Author: bikesforme, Posted: Tue Mar 26, 2013 1:57 pm ---- The other gasket is a metal one too, anyone no if the inlet gasket is metal.
#8: Re: Cylinder head help please Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Tue Mar 26, 2013 2:55 pm ---- On a metal manifold the inlets tend to use the stuff that resembles cardboard.
#9: Re: Cylinder head help please Author: bikesforme, Posted: Wed Mar 27, 2013 3:26 pm ---- Not got a clue then, there is some rubber rings in the kit too, would that be the inlet gaskets and perhaps the kit comes with two different types of exhaust gaskets .
#10: Re: Cylinder head help please Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Wed Mar 27, 2013 4:20 pm ---- Rubber rings tend to be for plastic inlet gaskets.
#11: Re: Cylinder head help please Author: bikesforme, Posted: Wed Mar 27, 2013 11:38 pm ---- I am sure my inlet is plastic .
#12: Re: Cylinder head help please Author: bikesforme, Posted: Wed Mar 27, 2013 11:38 pm ---- I am sure my inlet is plastic .
#13: Re: Cylinder head help please Author: bikesforme, Posted: Thu Mar 28, 2013 2:27 am ----
This is a picture of my other gasket, the bottom gasket fits the exhaust manifold fine, not sure if both gaskets are for exhaust manifold and the kit comes with 2 to cover other type.
My inlet manifold is plastic, been told that this head is for a plastic inlet manifold but there are 2 types of plastic inlet manifolds.
This is the inlet side of head, bearing in mind the head is upside down, if anyone can help.
#14: Re: Cylinder head help please Author: bikesforme, Posted: Tue Apr 16, 2013 10:56 am ---- Head is on and all fitted well and runs great, the kit came with 2 different exhaust gaskets . The injectors are little noisy but i have just brought 4 brand new ones waiting to put in when i have the time. Car seems to be better on fuel now, headgasket was well gone.

Mate...
It is NEVER the injectors.
It's always the valves that need adjusting carefully and repeatedly over 1000 miles or so.
Then you'll be cooking.
#16: Re: Cylinder head help please Author: bikesforme, Posted: Tue Apr 16, 2013 9:09 pm ---- The noise seems to be coming from the back where the injectors are, I checked and adjusted the valves when I put head on and doubled checked 3 times. Brought 4 brand new injectors now, car done 135000 miles so new injectors might be good.
Will put them in see how it goes, if noisy still , then I will recheck valves.
#17: Re: Cylinder head help please Author: V9977, Location: Athens, GreecePosted: Wed Apr 17, 2013 5:30 am ---- It takes ages for them to settle down and bed-in after major work or even slight adjustment.
It also takes skill and experience to do them properly, and 99/100 times they are adjusted with too big a gap causing 'raspy' engine once it warms-up, or even pinging of a valve or two depending on the condition of the setup.
I strongly recommend opening the lid only after 200 miles and every 300 miles thereafter until you are fully happy with the torque/noise ratio, and fuel economy will also improve.
The TU3 is a good engine but usually the valve tappets cause this characteristic noise which so many people think it's the injectors.
However, let us know please when you replace them.
Cheers.

#19: Re: Cylinder head help please Author: bikesforme, Posted: Thu Apr 18, 2013 11:01 am ---- New fuel injectors in and car runs really nice, feels little quicker. Tappet noise still there, i have checked them while cold has per haynes manual, and they are all spot on. I would not say they are really loud.
Happy with the car now, just going to improve the brakes then car all done.

Did you leave it overnight when you say engine cold?

Car was left over-night, I did not put a bend in feeler gauge has my gauges are small so had plenty room.

OK good to re-check them after a while.
Best of luck.
