The noise seems to be coming from the back where the injectors are, I checked and adjusted the valves when I put head on and doubled checked 3 times. Brought 4 brand new injectors now, car done 135000 miles so new injectors might be good.
Will put them in see how it goes, if noisy still , then I will recheck valves.

It takes ages for them to settle down and bed-in after major work or even slight adjustment.
It also takes skill and experience to do them properly, and 99/100 times they are adjusted with too big a gap causing 'raspy' engine once it warms-up, or even pinging of a valve or two depending on the condition of the setup.

I strongly recommend opening the lid only after 200 miles and every 300 miles thereafter until you are fully happy with the torque/noise ratio, and fuel economy will also improve.

The TU3 is a good engine but usually the valve tappets cause this characteristic noise which so many people think it's the injectors.

However, let us know please when you replace them. Smile

Cheers.

Can I ask did you adjust the clearances in the correct order and when cold?

New fuel injectors in and car runs really nice, feels little quicker. Tappet noise still there, i have checked them while cold has per haynes manual, and they are all spot on. I would not say they are really loud.
Happy with the car now, just going to improve the brakes then car all done.

Did you put a bend on the end of each feeler gauge?
Did you leave it overnight when you say engine cold?

Car was left over-night, I did not put a bend in feeler gauge has my gauges are small so had plenty room.

OK good to re-check them after a while.
Best of luck. Smile
