#1: 1.4 hdi. stalling and air in primer Author: Fifer, Location: FifePosted: Fri Mar 22, 2013 4:09 pm ---- Well. After my car kept stalling on my way to work. I changed the diesel filter. Car has ran fine since (eml on but can afford to get it read untill the end of the month).
However it has since juddered when overtaking a lorry and cut out once when driving (over a 300 mile distance). I have noticed air pasing through the clear fuel pipe. Lots of little bubbles and some big ones. When I prime I can hear (I think) diesel flowing into the filter.
On examining the fuel lines under the air box their doesn't seem to be any holes but the pipes are scuffed and have a white powder on them.
Could this be a fine hole letting in air and what do you think of the possibility that this could be causing pockets of air in the filter that get sucked through and cut out the car.

I cut the hose where the split was and put in a inline connector which solved the problem.
Apparently it is a common fault on this model as the fuel line rubs on the lugs that hold them in place.

I found it very difficult to get the lines off the nipples that's why I took the easy option of fitting the inline connector, Good luck!

I trimmed the plastic pipe at the connections (non filter sides) and pushed it over. I did notice that the connectors for the filter had no rubber seals in them. Car seems to idle better now (could be my head though). I did notice air in the line still after a quick idle and rest but this could be pockets passing through. Ill check again after a god run.
Eml still on after a battery disconnect though so I will still need to get that read soon.
#7: Re: 1.4 hdi. stalling and air in primer Author: Fifer, Location: FifePosted: Sat Mar 23, 2013 8:52 am ---- Forgot to add I did notice when priming after changing the lines the bubbles would flow one way when squeezed then back down the linetje other way. Should the bulb have a one way vv inside it. Maybe the bulb has gone?
#8: Re: 1.4 hdi. stalling and air in primer Author: A10PSW, Posted: Sat Mar 23, 2013 8:54 am ---- Should only go one way, sometimes there is a arrow on them to show which way the flow should go.
#9: Re: 1.4 hdi. stalling and air in primer Author: Fifer, Location: FifePosted: Sat Mar 23, 2013 11:33 am ---- It does have the arrow. I never changed the pump lines. It has gone stiff now with only small bubbles so ill let it sit overnight and check again tomorrow. It was probanly just the air baxk filling the bulb.
