How is it normally supposed to come on= Via the remote turn on wire from the HU or via switched +12V (ignition)?
Either way, it could be an intermittent connection on this line, an intermittent connection on the +12V line to the sub/amp (always suspect any glass tube (AGU?) fuse if you've got that inline), or something internal to the amp causing it to go in/out of protection.
Get a voltmeter and monitor the power feed and turn on signal while it turns on/off and see if that gives any clues.
Also check any wiring from amp to sub for stray coper strands that may cause shorts on the load side of the amp.
None of these should be caused merely from standing, but that might just be coincidental. Possibly water/moisture got in somewhere it shouldn't...

1) +ve is given to the remote i/p as usuall to the amp which switches it on.
2) Amp now draws current being powered-up which causes a drop in voltage of the battery which is weak.
3) Remote voltage is now not-enough and the amp thinks it's being switched-off.
4) Now there is no current being drawn (amp off) the voltage rises slightly again, and so-on..
Check battery while you're at it and dry the whole thing.
