#1: Just bought Xsi with a couple of issues Author: josh206xsi, Location: NottinghamshirePosted: Tue Apr 09, 2013 5:57 am ---- Hi all, firstly I am new to this site, I have just bought my 2nd 206 after really liking my first, my new one being the 2004 Xsi in question.
It has a couple of issues, which I am not sure if they are linked or not?
1st when idling, every now and then it jolts down by about 100-200rpm very quickly and then comes back up just as quick, it really does feel like a fast jolt as you can feel it in the car through the vibration.
2nd sometimes when started the either airbag lights come on and I get warnings on the centre screen, OR the screen reads engine imobiliser fault.
I got the car connected to a computer (a friend has basic diagnostics) and the only issue this said was that the battery is low (which I thought made sense for both of these issues), so i charged it up and no airbag/imobiliser faults show up, however the idle is still exactly the same, also after a few days the airbag/imobiliser issues come back so the battery could have had it.
I am not too worried about the airbag issues as it does seem to be the battery and I am going to try and get the dealer to sort it as it has a 3month warranty (however I don't think he will due to it not completely dying), but the idling issues do worry me a little, the car seems to run fine and smooth when driving (with it being the first time I have owned this engine it SEEMS to run ok but can't be sure), could it be that this issue will be solved with the battery as it does it even when stopping at traffic lights after a long run out so you would assume even a dying battery would be fairly charged.
Anyway sorry for going on a bit but any and all help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Josh

You would be in the event of an accident
#3: Re: Just bought Xsi with a couple of issues Author: Steve206, Location: UKPosted: Tue Apr 09, 2013 6:30 am ---- I would change the battery, and go from there.
#4: Re: Just bought Xsi with a couple of issues Author: craigo13, Posted: Tue Apr 09, 2013 1:21 pm ---- Had same probably with my gti.... Was the battery.
Also check connections under seats .
Hope you get it sorted
#5: Re: Just bought Xsi with a couple of issues Author: josh206xsi, Location: NottinghamshirePosted: Tue Apr 09, 2013 3:07 pm ---- Does that go for the idling as well as the airbag?
#6: Re: Just bought Xsi with a couple of issues Author: chris_walker, Location: LincolnshirePosted: Tue Apr 09, 2013 5:28 pm ---- when it's idle it may have something to do with the lambda sensor? Mine does exactly the same, just havent got round to getting a new one yet as they can be a bit pricey. It's probably not that but just thought i'd let you know
#7: Re: Just bought Xsi with a couple of issues Author: josh206xsi, Location: NottinghamshirePosted: Fri Apr 12, 2013 4:06 am ---- So yesterday I changed the battery, and as suspected no more airbag/imobiliser issues showing up.
However the car is still doing its weird idle as described above with no changes, anyone have any other answers, as I would like to get it sorted, the car isn't showing up any error codes or weird readings on diagnostics, but it is only a basic diagnostics, not PP2000 etc...
Any and all help is appreciated.
#8: Re: Just bought Xsi with a couple of issues Author: tsotd, Location: kentPosted: Sat Apr 13, 2013 4:35 am ---- did you do that ecu/bios reset thing? not just removing the battery and fitting another one.
#9: Re: Just bought Xsi with a couple of issues Author: josh206xsi, Location: NottinghamshirePosted: Sat Apr 13, 2013 4:39 am ---- Yes I followed the BSI soft boot procedure.

Doubt that's true, when your lambda fails, your car will run on preset values.

The car is still doing the weird juddering as described above, but it seems to be getting worse. I'm no mechanic but the battery has been changed (fixed the airbag light issue), the spark plugs have been changed, sir filter been changed as has the oil and filter, but it still does it, with still no codes coming up on dianostics.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Mine was hunting at idle, recently changed the cat because it had a hole in it between the cat and the lambda sensor, put in a new lambda sensor and sprayed some carb cleaner into the throttle body which may have cleaned some crap off the ICV. Whatever was causing it, one of these things cured it.
#14: Re: Just bought Xsi with a couple of issues Author: HowlingMadMurdock, Location: Ashington, NorthumberlandPosted: Thu May 16, 2013 5:23 pm ---- My erractic idle problems were the ICV and MAP sensor being covered in gunk. Carb cleaner sorted the problem in minutes.

I doubt its the ICV on a 1.6 16v TU5JP4
I would check the Spark plugs (what make are they) and the coilpack (what make is it).
