Remove gearbox side wheel, wheel arch and sump guard lining and you have access to the plug. Do this on level surface, It's full when It starts to overflow.

hi telakeppi i put up a photo, it's not great but you can just about see the 3 nuts i'm talking about. the one on the bottom right is not a plug nut, there are 3 of these and they are the nuts that hold the plate on.?? it has been suggested that they don't have any filler holes and you drain all the oil then fill the required amount by the top breather??? this seem stupid to me as it's nearly impossable to get at the top of the gearbox??? thanks

Do you have the drain plug? Nr. 1 in the first picture.

Some 1.4HDi have the later ME5 box (three bolts holding 5th gear cover) instead of the BR4. It has no filler plug, only a drain plug.
Peugeot standard procedure is to use the breather (black plastic cover) on top of the box which you'll see by removing the battery, next to the earthing straps.

Only use Total BV 75W80 or bitterly regret it. Smile

thanks guys, it's great to get all the replys so quickly. especially when you're a bit skint and try to do things by yourself on a very small budget. i think V9977 hit the nail on the head as this sound like my one. why is it never the easy one when you go to do these these things?? haha there is probably only 2 of this type of gearbox in ireland and i have one of them!! hahahaha Smile

Thats really unfortunate. My 206 1.4HDi is also 04 and I have BVM MA5/O gearbox (part number 2222WY) and It definately have the filler plug.

For pictures, you could use something like imgur.com, upload your pictures and link them.

Some MA5 have it, later ones don't.
The one's without the drain-plug are nicer feel gearchange imo as they have 'improved' synchro cogs.

The OP should double check which they have though.
