1.4 hdi cutting out

#1: 1.4 hdi cutting out Author: waynemex PostPosted: Sun Apr 28, 2013 11:19 pm
    ----
Hi

Hope someone can help, my 2003 1.4 hdi 206sw started cutting out a few months ago. First time I managed to get it going by pumping the black priming bulb. It started ok but gradually got worse. I changed the fuel filter, but the intermittent cutting out continued. Every time I managed to get it started again by pumping the priming bulb, air could be seen through the translucent fuel pipe near the bulb.

I took it to the local garage and they found a black sludge like substance in the small basket filter in the fuel tank outlet. This was cleaned and the car was better for a few weeks, then same again the last few days. Checked the tank filter again, all clean.

Has anyone had something similar, it seems as if the pump might be losing its prime or air leaking in to the system.

Thanks in advance

Wayne

underneath the airbox on top of the engine. the box can rub through the fuel pipes that run from the filter to the pump and vice versa...

Thanks Lads, there was a couple of abrasion/flatting marks on the 2 pipes under the airbox, taped them with self amalgamating tape for now to prove the fix, it seems better and is running well.

Thinking of heat shrink over the pipes instead of renewing the lot, all the connections look heat shrunk/moulded on??

right this is still ongoing unfortunately.

The next day the car wouldnt start, same old story. The fuel pipe that I think is split is the lowest one of the nylon fuel pipe loom, it feels like it plugs in to the steel common rail, try as I might I cant reach the second clip to release the quick release fitting. How much stuff do I need to strip off the car to release it...or is there an easy way to do it?

cheers

I had the same problem it is a common fault on the HDI.
The 2 fuel lines underneath the filter box rub against the lugs that they sit in and eventually wear a hole in the pipes.

The pipes are very hard to get off the connections as they are heatshrinked on, so what I did was cut the pipe where the hole was and fitted a plastic inline connector which now sits in the retaining lugs.

Problem solve cheaply!

Thanks for the reply, changed most of the pipes, car still wont even fire now, can anyone point me in the direction of a diagram of the bosch injection component layout, my 206 haynes manual only covers the bigger diesels.

Cheers

Unless the EML light is on, id say you've still got an air leak.

Try Filling the tank (with a Jerry can) as, when you are priming it, if it's low it will take ages to prime it and even then because you've had the pipes off it might not prime fully
