#1: 180 oil leak Author: MattyP, Location: Plymouth PostPosted: Sun May 05, 2013 8:29 am

not long ago I noticed the 180 was leaking oil so got it checked out and found the rocker cover gasket seals had gone so had them replaced but more recently i've found it's still leaking an oil based fluid but the actual engine oil level hasn't changed as I check this every week, thinking it could be hydraulic fluid but i'm probably wrong, any ideas?

Where are you finding the oil..? May well be hydralic oil of some sort... maybe power steering fluid or similar.

it's running off 2 thin cylinder pipes which run under the middle part of the engine and are parralell as they come away from the engine and then spread out in a v shape as they run towards the rear of the car, have seen a little oil in a area between the engine block and battery

are you sure its oil ?? as another thing it could be is the run off from the a/c and if the car is a bit dirty underneath it may look like thin oil.

From the front looking at the bay, they go under Neath on the right handside of the engine. They clip together on the back of the engine.

it smells like an oil and has the same consistency, managed to get a pic online of where the oil is running down and dripping onto the drive

Could even be from the gearbox at that point.

Those are the power steering pipes, but as said oil or any residue could come from anywhere!
