#6: Re: Rear Dampers Author: usher, Location: northallertonPosted: Wed May 08, 2013 4:07 pm ---- they might slightly but the torsion bars set how stiff it is
#7: Re: Rear Dampers Author: Zack, Location: NorthamptonshirePosted: Wed May 08, 2013 4:10 pm ---- To make it stiff you need stiff dampers found some now any way 110 delivered me gaz ones

So, let me get this straight... if I had a 1.1 with 17mm torsion bars and stuck just a set of SPAX bone breaking shocks on the rear end, my suspension will be stiff..? No itll still flop around like a limp d**k.
To stiffen suspension you have to do spring and shocks / torsion bars and shocks not one or the other.
#11: Re: Rear Dampers Author: Zack, Location: NorthamptonshirePosted: Thu May 09, 2013 2:02 am ---- What the point in adjustable dampers then? If they don't do anything.

Try and learn what a shock absorber does first, and then you might start understanding the workings of the suspension system.
#13: Re: Rear Dampers Author: Zack, Location: NorthamptonshirePosted: Thu May 09, 2013 2:38 am ---- Well i have ordered them now so ill just fit them
#14: Re: Rear Dampers Author: Zack, Location: NorthamptonshirePosted: Thu May 09, 2013 2:54 am ---- What size bar would you say is best?
#15: Re: Rear Dampers Author: Edward, Location: In the garagePosted: Thu May 09, 2013 2:59 am ---- Fit uprated dampers to a car with standard torsion bars. Put 100kg in it. The suspension drop will be the same as before.
Put the same load on a car with uprated torsion bars and it won't drop as far.
The clue to what dampers do is in their name. They dampen the energy in the torsion bars. So they slow down the suspension movement.

But gas dampers 'push-out' a bit whereas plain oil ones don't.
So it will have the effect of stiffening a bit together with the tightness of the damper itself no?
Those tires are way out there though, is this photoshoped or..?
#18: Re: Rear Dampers Author: Zack, Location: NorthamptonshirePosted: Thu May 09, 2013 12:08 pm ---- That's what I thought but maybe not ill see when fitted.
Nah it's real

Under no load they might push out but with the weight of the car on them they won't push the car higher at all.
#20: Re: Rear Dampers Author: Zack, Location: NorthamptonshirePosted: Sat May 11, 2013 1:09 pm ---- Fitted gaz rear dampers today and the ride is stiff as hell.
